The last surviving member of the “Boys of Summer,” those fondly remembered Brooklyn Dodgers teams of the late 1940s to mid-1950s, Carl Erskine died Tuesday. He was 97.

The last boy of summer. My Dad drove over to Ebbits often and was a big fan. My wife still remembers seeing her Dad, Brooklyn born and raised, with a crushed look on his face and telling her the Dodgers were leaving Brooklyn.

So RIP Oisk. And a nice thought for me of my Dad and the father in law I never knew.
