Pirates remain unbeaten at home, Secure second BIG EAST win

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.
– Goals from Rikard Cederberg and Jon Vignir Pétursson led No. 11 Seton Hall men's soccer to a 2-1 victory over Butler for the Pirates ninth win of the season.

The Pirates dominated the first half by outshooting the Bulldogs 8-1, but only one of the shots found the back of the net. The only Pirates goal from the first half came from Jon Vignir Pétursson planting the rebound from a penalty kick save in the goal from point blank range. The Pirates continued to dominate on the offensive end in the second half, outshooting the Bulldogs 6-2, and earned another goal off a strong Rikard Cederburg run. The Bulldogs pulled a goal back in the final 15 minutes, but the Pirates quashed any hope of an equalizer, securing a 2-1 victory.

With the win, The Hall moves to 9-2-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was a decidedly offensive affair in favor of the Pirates. In the 28th minute, the Pirates launched three shots from inside the box, two of which rattled off the crossbar. However, undeterred, the Pirates continued to push the ball into Bulldog territory.

In the 41st minute, Butler's Alejandro Moroso-Maza took down Tim Ströbeck in the box, handing the Pirates a penalty kick. Jon Vignir Pétursson stepped to the spot and scored off Butler goalkeeper Caleb Norris' penalty save, earning his third goal of the season. Entering halftime, the Pirates held a 8-1 advantage over the Bulldogs in shots.

The Hall continued pressuring the Bulldog's defensive stance, registering their first shot of the half after one minute. In the 66th minute, another Pirate offensive allowed Rikard Cederburg to finish a shot to the far post, extending the Pirates' lead to 2-0.

In the 78th minutes, the Bulldogs responded to the Seton Hall's goal with a goal off the foot of Josemir Gomez, cutting the score to a 2-1 Pirates lead.
The two teams exchanged red cards in the 83rd minute after a harsh slide tackle by Butler lead to a scuffle, forcing both teams to play with ten men until the game's completion.

Butler had an opportunity at the death to tie the game, but Soren Jensen ripped the ball out of the air and secured the 2-1 victory for the Pirates.
