Prior to Charlie's death I had been reminiscing about drummers from the '70s.

Without question John Bonham is one of the greatest drummers all time.

Carl Palmer is up there right along side him.

I have a new found respect for Charlie Watts.

Extremely humble man who understood his role as a band's musician. Classic jazz drummer who did not seek a limelight. He refrained from solos and just stuck to his role to keep the beat. He quietly did his job and provided the foundation for one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever.

Nice post
Legend!

bit I don’t get your point about refraining from solos…. Not saying I disagree, I just don’t get it. Do other drummers demand them or something? Maybe they do, that what you mean?

anyway if one likes percussion I know you like him in monkey man

RIP

Here is an interview from 1996. At 1:11 he is asked about his role in the band.
