You're confusing local crime and a homeland threat from terrorism.

The intelligence community their assessment of potential terrorist threads deemed white supremist activity at the top. That doesn't really speak to random criminal activity. This is the report that was released before Biden won the election.

Biden should know the Capitol riot was not the worst attack on our Democracy. Yet that is what his administration wants us to believe. This is a pure power play. He is using that to turn American agencies against its own citizens and get around the 4th amendment. If Trump did this the press would go nuts. The press made a big deal of it when Trump contradicted the intelligence agencies regarding the origins of the Wuhan virus. Biden can do the same.

The Biden administration is considering using private firms to track the online activity of American citizens in order to get around the Fourth Amendment and other laws that protect Americans from unreasonable searches and seizures and surveillance. The report says that the Biden administration wants to monitor “extremist chatter by Americans online” but can’t do so without a warrant, and thinks private firms can get around the legal restrictions.
