CHARLESTON, S.C. — Despite a career day from Isaiah Coleman, the Seton Hall men's basketball team fell to Vanderbilt, 76-60, in its second game of the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic in TD Arena.

After recording his first career double-double in last night's overtime thriller, Isaiah Coleman scored a career-high 20 points (8-of-15 from the field, 4-of-7 from three) for the Pirates (3-3). The Commodores (6-0) shot better than any team has against The Hall this season (28-of-54, 51.9%), while Pirates had their worst shooting day since the season opener against Saint Peter's (36.5%).

How It Happened

The Commodores opened the game unphased by the Pirates extensive defensive pressure, leaping out to a quick 8-4 lead through 4:30 of play thanks to a pair of threes. After putting up his first-career double-double last night, Isaiah Coleman continued his strong play in Charleston by responding with two threes to give the Pirates their first lead of the game, 10-8, with 12:32 remaining in the first half.

A stretch of strong defense from Vanderbilt would stymy the Pirates offense, helping the SEC school to a 21-15 lead with 7:45 remaining in the half thanks to four points from Grant Huffman. Scotty Middleton would lead all Pirates scorers through the remainder of the half with five points, but the Pirates struggled on the offensive end to allow the Commodores to find breathing room. Vanderbilt would nearly end the half on a 17-10 run, but they would foul Dylan Addae-Wusu on an end-of-half three, handing the Pirates three free throws. Addae-Wusu would convert all three, sending the Pirates to halftime down 38-28.

In the opening stages of the second half, the Pirates offense began to find its rhythm. After a stellar first half Isaiah Coleman would provide another eight points in the opening five minutes of the half. The Pirates struggled to make a dent in the deficit on the defensive end, however. Vanderbilt would start the half 3-of-4 from the field in the same period of time, keeping the score at 49-38. Things would continue sail away from the Pirates as the Commodores would go on a 14-7 run to extend their lead to 66-45 with 9:57 remaining in the half.

As time began to wane in the second half, the Pirates continued to search for an offensive answer. Jasheem Felton scored five points of the bench and Prince Aligbe added six more, but the Pirates could not stop Vanderbilt on the offensive end. Despite the Pirates closing the half on an 8-2 run, the team fell to the Commodores 76-60.

You're right. But it's a good sign that Coleman might be rounding into shape now that he is over his injury. Jenkins needs help.
