Before the season began I had a long talk with myself and decided I would not face the ups and downs of the past five years without assuming a new mindset. I was convinced that Kevin was a disaster and all my stewing about him had been in vain. I had contacted Patrick and expressed my views without venom or malice of forethought. I like so many others was certainly not in the drivers seat.
I decided to just let the season play out, and at least try to ward off the roller coaster reaction to the Kevin era. If we have more of the same then it would be time to realize the Hall was bound to be a cellar dweller.I at this point could still not fathom my friend Dan consistently stating that the guy is a defensive genius.
This neutral position worked pretty well until the first Creighton game when my brain quickly went into high gear"Kevin disaster" mode .Fortunately like Dick I backed up and went with the "let it play out "rationale that had been my pre-season decision.
Wednesday night I saw what Dan had been saying because the defensive intensity of this group of players made me feel that I was watching a PJ team.Being at the game, I was amazed at the number of times they slapped the ball away, and every possession was a war.The only negative of the night was watching Govan and realizing he could have been in Pirate blue. The kid is going to be a stud.
I am not holding my breath any longer and give tremendous credit to Kevin, the staff and the players. It is a terrific ride..Also with the double defeat of Georgetown I will be the most obnoxious family member t the Thanksgiving table.
