Covid linked to mental disorders

Boy, they're really trying to scare the sheep now. This virus does everything!

First it was long haul! Then Kawasaki! Now this! Incredible!

When will people wake up and see what is really going on here?

Reuters is an international news media publication that is among the biggest and most positions in the world, i could understand if you felt this way across a liberal US media group's research and publication

I believe there is evidence linking mental health problems to most significant illnesses which makes sense when people are faced with worrying about what will happen to them.

Looks like the study has not been peer reviewed so would certainly need to see more before saying this is Covid specific. The loss of smell did always make me wonder if there is some neurological aspect to this though. Such an odd symptom.

Hopefully nothing long term for the tens of millions of people who have been infected.

This is just another scare tactic without having peer reviewed data. People that are diagnosed with cancer have the same mental health challenges. It doesn’t help when the news media is scaring the crap out of people at every day.

We have all seen perfectly healthy people that have turned into paranoid hermits.

LOL now that is hilarious. you have a long history of getting your panties in a bunch when people disagree with the liberal garbage news on Twitter you post. There’s no way you would treat his reaction from Reuters or the Washington Post any different.

Thank you, voice of reason. I'm sure NYShoreGuy will call you cold and heartless too and our resident moron from Bayonne will "like" the post.

It's actually hysterical living rent free in both of their minds. Maybe they just have a mental illness from coronavirus.

This is silly to a degree. So when the news reports shootings, vehicle accidents, robberies, these are all scare tactics vs the people consuming the product.

Not silly...when the news leads with the number of deaths, number of cases in bold numbers every night along with pictures that really aren't an accurate depiction of what is happening, that is scare tactics. Why don't they report on the length of stay in hospitals?

It isn't accurate to say there are more people hospitalized in the US with Covid today than there have been any day since July 24th, and that we will be soon passing the highest total for current hospitalizations if not today than tomorrow? That the 7 day average daily deaths isn't the highest it has been since August 20th?

Why don't they report on the length of stay in hospitals?

Because states are not reporting that number.

Because it’s not really accurate reporting. If hospitalizations are up but average length of stay is 3 to 4 days versus 45 to 90 days, it is a very different picture. Elective surgeries have not been canceled, there is no shortage of PPE and hospitals are managing Covid patients with very little impact to their remaining operation. Those are facts. Facts you won’t see on the MSM.

Or test positivity or who is actually getting it.

God forbid they go out on a limb, do some of their own reporting, and try to make people feel better about the crappy situation. I'm sure if Donald Trump left something out, they would find it.

North Dakota is stopping elective surgeries now. Covid hospitalizations are increasing just as we are heading into flu season... That is not a good trend at all.

Can you support that 3-4 day number?

I personally don't feel that has been left out of the reporting. Do people really not understand that we are better at treating this now than we were back in March and April? We have learned a lot and are better at it now... but that doesn't really take away from the fact that the hospitalization and death trends in the US are bad right now.

North freaking Dakota? Can you find a more obscure example?

Yes, hospitalizations are increasing, but length of stay is very short and the severity of cases is significantly different. Because of the business we are in I get access to hospital dashboard information on this pretty much every day.

Certain states don't matter?

North Dakota and South Dakota are just in the worst shape right now, but almost every state is seeing an increase in Covid related hospitalizations. Again, not a good trend heading into flu season.

Is your data local or national?

Do you know how many beds and ICU beds there are in the entire state of North and South Dakota? Yes they matter, but we are talking about obscure areas that have limited capacity to begin with.

Data is both local and national.

During the spring New Jersey had about 8500 patients hospitalized in that 45 to 60 day LOS. Yesterday they had 2300 and the vast majority will be there for only a few days. And it’s business as usual. No cancellation of elective surgeries.

So you have access to length of stay by patient for Covid patients?
Trend line available?

I have access to a lot of hospital data. Just a matter of what I request from them. As I said earlier, our business is directly related to census mix and trends. The data in this region is much more granular but I do also get national trending information.

Second wave appears to be less virulent according to my hospital sources.Election is over so hopefully any forecasts on virus devoid of politics on either side.

Saw a presentation with some interesting stats today. Cases in Europe are up and their mortality rate is now twice that of U.S. in France and Italy. One country that is actually faring well is India. Could it be that their immune systems are better?

Alzheimer’s deaths are up dramatically and linked mostly to loneliness being a contributor. Without family interaction, patients deteriorating faster. There are consequences to isolation.

3,200 Americans die every day from cancer and heart disease.

you ever see people bathe in the ganges? i wouldnt be surprised if Indians have super immune systems.

it could also be chalked up to them not reporting anything fully.

do you think we are doing anything different from europe to result in half their mortality rate?

That’s not a short answer. Even European countries are each doing different things. I would chalk most of up to our healthcare system which is superior and has more capacity.

Hey!!! Don’t poop on Bayonne!

Yep. New record today. Current Covid hospitalizations at an all time high. Highest daily deaths in months... kinda puts a damper on the “this all goes away after the election” nonsense. Smh...

Good thing another therapy was given EUA today and vaccine will be available by December. We are in a much better position than others to deal with the disease.

Do you believe a good majority of healthy documented citizens with no high risk factors will willingly start getting this vaccine?

It won’t be available to that group until April. Priority to healthcare workers, first responders, elderly, severely compromised.

It won't be available to younger, healthier people until at least the middle of next year. Probably later. By then the virus may burn itself out naturally from epidemic levels anyway or through a combination of herd immunity and at risk vaccination.

You and Hall85 will only be met with “case” stats and whatever, comparing a time when we didn’t have a darn test to now and predicting darkness

If we got 100% of the doses (do we have first in line priority with Pfizer or preferential distribution pro rats?), there’d be enough for 25 million people in December. Gonna take time to get vaccinated. At least there is some light.

HHS apparently has created a priority list and will then be left up to states (Governors) to administer.

I’m sure HHS has a prioritization, but what is Pfizer’s. Do we get the first $2bn in doses, or are we just committed to get that? So if they produce 50 million in 2020, do we get 100% or the majority?

I think that’s part of the deal. Pfizer has to follow HHS. Also I believe some of the doses are earmarked for export.
