Restaurants opening
casinos been open and now smoking ok
But schools need not open

Who made these decisions? are they based on sound medical advice or pressure from the unions or both? Something else at play?

would like to hear everyone’s thoughts

thanks

The teachers unions made this decision and unfortunately Murphy did not stand up to them.

And cases way down but high school sports not starting until October, easy for them to cancel by then if cases go up at all. Terrible decision making.

On LBI....not much mask wearing in public. Trump parade today...who knew?

I've spent a lot of time on LBI all summer. Restaurants and supermarkets everyone is wearing masks. Walking on the street, not many masks but some people have them in crowded areas. None on the beach which is appropriate IMO as long as you can distance. I believe in the risky areas (restaurants, stores and supermarkets) most are wearing masks. At least that has been my experience this summer.

The Life Guard incident in Surf City and Harvey Cedars was incredibly stupid. We know one LG who was infected and we were not surprised at all. His family has always let their sons do whatever they want. Someone mentioned his name and my wife and I thought he probably had the party b/c his parents are so dumb.

I drove off the causeway Saturday to Beach Haven West to a friends house for the day and was surprised to see the large Trump boat parade and about 300+ people on the bridge cheering them on. Did not expect to see that. Beach Haven West by the way has a heavy police and fireman population for summer homes and Trump flags are everywhere.

Yes, indoors people complying but outdoors not much at all. We didn’t see the regatta...better things to do, like anything...lol.

Back of the envelope numbers that put a perspective on why people are acting the way they are.

Chances of having tested positive: 1 in 50
Chances of being hospitalized: 1 in 1,000
Chances of dying: 1 in 1,700
Chances of dying if you don’t have any comorbitities: 1 in 20,000

It’s likely most people don’t know anyone directly or even indirectly hospitalized or killed by this disease. Yet they have been asked to totally change their lifestyle and potentially have lost their job over the past six months. I’m not trying to justify behavior but after all this time, if the only patient impact you've seen is only on TV, you can understand why there is a backlash.

That phrasing seems wrong. Those are not chances of anything. Those are just current numbers relative to the entire US population and look drastically different than if you were to have posted the same thing each month.

1 in 50 of the entire US population has tested positive.
1 out of 14 tests has returned a positive result.

1 out of 1,000 of the entire US population has been hospitalized.
1 out of 11 of those who have tested positive have been hospitalized.

1 out of 1,700 of the entire US population has died from the virus.
1 out of 33 of those who have tested positive have died.

It doesn’t change the point I was making. The vast majority of Americans have had no direct connection with someone who has tested positive, hospitalized or died.

I think that is a poor excuse for being unwilling to see something that is outside of their direct scope of view. People who are not impacted by illegal immigration at all still want border security.

Not an excuse, but rather human nature. Unrelated, but I was on a golf course in PR, on 9/11 and the other three guys were from NC and OK. I immediately left the course but they finished the round.

Illegal immigration impacts everyone, positively or negatively depending on your view. I agree with you here, generally

After six months of overhyped nonsense, some people are starting to wake up to what Murphy is doing. Better late than never, I guess.

NJ GOP needs to nominate a strong candidate who can actually win (not a sacrificial lamb) next year. It is imperative that we vote Murphy out of office.

You pay attention to nj politics much? Assembly people/state senators?
