Excellent game by Creighton. First time watching Louisville to that degree. Reminded me of a better version of Seton Hall with more talent. Did not enjoy their style of play although the guards are terrific going to the rim.
McDermott is very good coach. Creighton up 28-20 and Louisville goes on 5-0 run. Louisville crowd getting into it. He immediately calls timeout (no waiting) to change momentum. Creighton responds with 19-2 run to get 20 point lead. Never looked back.
McDermott tried. Put in a bench player so his regulars wouldn't waste a foul and the kid whiffed.
He's a tremendous coach. Creighton is always so fundamentally strong. They always seem to have excellent Point Guards. It's amazing how he gets them to play defense without fouling.
The offense is always so great to watch. But the defense without fouling is really astounding. What other good team does that?
The only problem is how they get penalized in close games. Which is why the Seton75 rule is better than how things are now. No one agrees with me lol.
Last 2 minutes, if you are under the limit and the other team is over the limit, the coach under the limit decides whether fts are taken on all fouls. Either team can take the shots or keep possession, depending in what the coach under the limit wants. If both teams are under the coach whose team got fouled decides whether to shoot or inbound.
Never say never, but he’s in such a great situation. Great support, NIL, and pretty much a lock for postseason every year.
I don’t know how much is loyalty compared to other factors.
McDermott tried the big football school once already and flamed out. So he’s seen firsthand what that world is like. He has done so well at Creighton folks forget about his Iowa State experience. Having gone through that IMO is partially why he has “allegedly” turned down places like Ohio State in recent years. He can have down years at Creighton and still be fine. Has as long a leash as you can. They just named their facility after him. Gets paid a ton. Always had resources. Can absolutely make a final 4 there in the right season, but if he misses the dance the fans and media won’t kill him either. No reason to go most anywhere.
