When Coach Moon’s retirement was announced there was no standard “a national search for a replacement will take place immediately” statement. There is also no job posting for the position on the university website. Anyone know what is going on with the program?

A live look at Seton Hall's plans for the program:

Lacrosse would be great but there is no place to play and would take too much imagination. Men's tennis or volleyball would be the logical (easy) choice(s) being the facilities are already available.

Exactly. They are at the NCAA minimum. It’s very cost effective to keep cross country precisely as is.
Keeping the indoor and outdoor track and field programs would have been cost effective as well as a lot of students compete on multiple teams but we saw what happened there!

The cost they cited there was a ton of scholarships.

Point is, they are still at the minimum number of D1 sports, otherwise they clearly would have cut cross country back then as well.

But with everything with the sport still in place, other than the coaching position, and with the small roster size, it’s obviously cheaper to keep it as is (which is virtually non-competitive, BTW) than start up two new sports.

Enjoyed watching indoor track meets ‘64-‘68 at MSG. Relays were always at or near the top. Also had several individual performers who were outstanding. Sad to see the once mighty disappear.

Not anymore

With new ncaa scholarship rules/guidelines it would have been a restraint on our athletics

Big East Pickle Ball!? Where are we recruiting for that, senior centers and over 55 communities? LOL!

How about adding something like lacrosse?
Just a few years ago, the Hall had a club lacrosse team that played in the NCLL for several years.
Would love to see them start it up again as a DII team like the hockey team.
I'm heading to Baltimore later for tomorrows Hopkins/North Carolina game. Go HOP

Obviously, the current pickle ball crew is skewed to the 50+ crowd. But I wonder if the demographics will change over time? I know my kids have been playing pickle ball in phys ed classes since were in elementary school.

If adding a sport, I would suggest Lacrosse. Popular in NJ, and already a Big East sport for both men and women.

We laugh, but a cheap easy sport to add is Bowling. You would be amazed at the number of women's bowling scholarships available. No men's teams in the NCAA thou. FDU has a top 5 women's team and has been National Champs a few years back . 5 scholarships and the bowling ball manufacturers donate the equipment.

I’ve thought that for a long time.

Did you also know that Monmouth converted some of the space in their old gym into a handful of lanes? It’s the perfect cheap Title IX balancing sport.

Long ago I think Seton Hall had even had bowling lanes on campus. Doubt those exist anymore but it think it would be fun for students to have something like that available on campus. Sponsoring a team would only enhance the use.

There are 24 approved NCAA sports including bowling and others which we do not have include gymnastics, lacrosse, wrestling, ice hockey, crew, field hockey, and football plus a few others we do have like basketball, baseball, tennis, golf and softball and volleyball…
