From the end of the linked piece in The Athletic:
"Who are the potential replacements?
O'Neil: Before we start with the candidate list, it's worth asking — who's doing the hiring? Louisville currently doesn't have a president or an athletic director. But when the school finally does get down to basketball coach, it's going to be tricky. No one knows how heavy the NCAA hammer will fall, which means someone has to be willing to take a leap of faith.
Would Bruce Pearl jump? Maybe, but why? He's got a good thing going at Auburn, and his NCAA ruling is behind him.
People who have mentioned Will Wade fail to recognize that Louisville would have to be crazy to hire a coach mired in his own NCAA investigation and potentially facing a show cause.
Alum Kenny Payne should and likely will get run but he will have to be lured back from the NBA to the college game, and he has no head-coaching experience.
Louisville ought to take a hard look at Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard, an assistant under Rick Pitino, and why not make a call to UCLA’s Mick Cronin, another former assistant with local roots?
