South Orange, N.J. -- The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup is set to tip off on Saturday, August 25 and the Seton Hall men's basketball program will be well represented at this year's event.

Sandro Mamukelashvili '21 will spend the end of his NBA offseason helping lead his native Georgia into their first World Cup competition. Mamukelashvili has represented Seton Hall well during his NBA career thus far, which has included stints with the Milwaukee Bucks and San Antonio Spurs. Mamu finished the NBA season hot, averaging 10.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in 19 games in San Antonio. Georgia was placed in Group F, alongside Slovenia, Cape Verde, and Venezuela. Their first game will be against Cape Verde on August 26.

Mamukelashvili left South Orange as an All-American and BIG EAST Player of the Year as a senior. He developed over four seasons at The Hall where he scored over 1,000 points and pulled down 651 career rebounds, which currently ranks 20th in school history. He was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft.

Another Pirate legend will also be lacing up in the tournament as Angel Delgado '18 will help lead the frontcourt for the Dominican Republic, which currently ranks 23rd in the FIBA World Rankings. Delgado was a force for the DR during the FIBA Qualifiers in the beginning of the year, averaging a double-double across 10 games. Delgado recorded double-digit rebounds in all but one game and averaged a block per contest. He continued the dominance that Pirate fans saw during his four-year career at The Hall, which saw him average 12.1 points and 11.0 rebounds over his four seasons. The Dominican Republic will compete in Group A alongside Angola, the Philippines and Italy. Their first game comes against the Philippines on August 25.

Delgado left Seton Hall ranked in the top 20 in program history in both scoring (1,593 points) and rebounding (1,455 rebounds). His decorated career was highlighted by his Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, presented to the nation's top center, following a strong senior campaign.

The tournament runs from August 25 to September 10 and its spans three countries; the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.

Geraminpoor retired from intl competition

Also, a few interesting names representing other countries.

Omari Spellman is a member of the Lebanese team
Kyle Anderson is playing for China.
Ronda Hollis-Jefferson is playing for Jordan.

I think the US team win it all but it's gonna be tough as the gap is smaller than previous years. Canada is very backcourt heavy but I like their chances to metal. France has a lot of vets with Fournier, Gobert and Batum. For those who love fundamentals, Australia could be a fun watch with guys like Giddy and Daniels.

Draftkings should be fun for daily fantasy and the sportsbook during this event

Dominican Republic beat the host country Philippines 87-81. Karl Anthony Towns led with 26 & 10. Angel had 6 points, a rebound and assist.

Also for you night owls, Sandro plays at 4 am

Dominican Republic advanced and next play on the 1st of September against the 2nd place finisher in group B, where all 4 teams can still potentially advance

If Georgia wins tomorrow, they advance to the next round, where only Germany has advanced to their group. Their other potential opponent will be either Australia or Japan

Sandro with 2 pts, 3 boards, and 2 assists. More importantly, Georgia advance to the next round where they have games against Germany and Australia.
