NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Seton Hall is on a nine-game win streak, the longest in the BIG EAST and tied for the sixth-longest in the nation behind San Diego State (21), Baylor (16), Gonzaga (13), Winthrop (10) and Florida State (10).
  • The Pirates’ nine-game win streak is the longest streak of the Kevin Willard Era.
  • Seton Hall’s last nine-game winning streak was 1/29-3/1/03. The Hall has had only four nine-game winning streaks in the BIG EAST Era (1988-89, 1992-93 twice, 2002-03).
  • A win on Wednesday evening would give the Hall its longest win streak since winning 12 straight games from 2/9/93 through 3/18/93.
  • Seton Hall’s best 20-game start in program history is the 20-0 start that the 1952-53 team authored en route to a season-opening 27-0.
  • The program’s best 20-game start in its BIG EAST era is an 18-2 mark set by the 1988-89 team. A win over DePaul would put the Pirates at 16-4 and match them with the 1999-00 team for second-best 20-game start in Seton Hall’s BIG EAST era.
  • The Pirates are ranked in the top-10 of the AP Top-25 for the second consecutive week, checking at No. 10.
  • Seton Hall is 12-4 all-time and has won its last six games as the 10th ranked team in the country.
  • Seton Hall is 7-0 in the BIG EAST for the first time ever.
  • The Hall’s seven consecutive BIG EAST victories in the same season is its longest since 2002-03 when the Pirates rattled off eight straight conference wins.
  • The 2002-03 Pirates are tied with the 1992-93 Pirates for the longest BIG EAST win streak in program history (8).
  • Dating back to last season, the Pirates have won nine straight regular season league games.
  • Six of Seton Hall’s seven BIG EAST wins this season have been decided by eight or more points.
  • Willard is one win away from surpassing P.J. Carlesimo (1982-94) for the most BIG EAST coaching victories in program history with 79.

MP13’S SCORING BY THE NUMBERS

  • Despite all of the hype and accolades in the preseason, senior All-American candidate Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) has statistically lived up to the well-deserved praise.
  • Powell is averaging 21.9 points per game, an average that ranks eighth in Division I and second in the BIG EAST, and he’s averaging 24.5 points in the 15 games he’s been able to finish.
  • His 3.0 made three-pointers per game ranks 27th in the country and third in the conference.
  • Against St. John’s (1/18/20), Powell became only the fifth Seton Hall player to score 2,000 points (Greg Tynes, Jeremy Hazell, Nick Werkman, Terry Dehere) and the sixth player to score 1,000 points in BIG EAST games (Dehere, Hazell, Mark Bryant, Andre McCloud, Khadeen Carrington).
  • On Jan. 8, Powell was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25, chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on the players’ performances during the first half of the season.
  • At the Battle 4 Atlantis, Powell set the single- tournament scoring record with 74 total points and he registered the third-most points scored in a B4A contest with his 32-point performance vs. Oregon (11/27/19).
  • Powell is steadily making his way up Seton Hall’s all-time scoring and three-point charts.

THE EMERGENCE OF Q AND RO

  • While Myles Powell gets a lion share of the national attention (and rightfully so), his classmates Romaro Gill (St. Thomas, Jamaica) and Quincy McKnight (Bridgeport, Conn.) have been crucial to Seton Hall’s success in the early goings of conference play.
  • McKnight, who’s averaging 11.3 points per game vs. conference opponents, leads the BIG EAST with 8.1 assists per game and a 3.6 assist/turnover ratio in league play.
  • Gill leads the BIG EAST with a 64.7 FG percentage and 4.3 blocked shots per game in conference games.
  • For both players, this season is one filled with milestones. McKnight has already surpassed the 400-assist plateau for his career and Gill is two blocks away from becoming the 16th player in program history to register 100 career blocks.

NO MAMU? WE WENT TO JARED!

  • Perhaps the most unheralded player during Seton Hall’s recent run of success has been sophomore forward Jared Rhoden (Baldwin, N.Y.), who has filled in admirably for injured junior forward Sandro Mamukelashvili (Tbilisi, Georgia).
  • In seven conference games, Rhoden has made six starts and has averaged 10.0 points and 5.9 rebound per game with a 42.9 three-point percentage and a 51.1 field goal percentage.
  • His boards per game total and clip from the field rank second on the team in BIG EAST games behind only Romaro Gill.
  • At Butler (1/15/20), Rhoden made multiple big plays down the stretch. With 1:57 to play and the Pirates leading by four, the Bulldogs found an open man under the basket off an out bounds play but Rhoden recovered and blocked the lay-up attempt.
  • Later, with the Pirates again holding on to a two-point lead with 46 seconds left and two seconds on the shot clock, Rhoden nailed a dagger three-pointer from the wing that put the Pirates ahead, 73-68.
  • Rhoden has scored in double figures in four of the Pirates’ seven BIG EAST games this season.
