DePaul Fires Stubblefield

Their problem is the same that of Syracuse BC and even rutgers to some extent . They are geographically incompatible to the base of the conference.
That I don’t get. Chicago is not Omaha. Big city, good history, great arena…

It is a bit like NY in that it’s probably more of a pro ticket, but their historically awful hires do have something to do with it.

They still call it NIL?? SMH.
Well that’s just silly, isn’t it?

It’s actually funny when you see a tv commercial like the one Clingon did for the car dealership. It’s like, dude, why waste your time, you’ll get paid anyway.

Another SMH post. Actually more LOL than SMH.

What about Creighton? What about Marquette? What about Xavier? What about Butler?
What about them? You think a kid in Omaha or Chicago knows anything about the big east aura like an nyc,NJ or philly kid ?

But that hasn't stopped those programs from being good in the new Big East. Well not really Butler, but those other 3 sure have, geography hasn't hurt and it isn't geography that hurts DePaul.

Just my guess, none of these kids have a clue of the aura of the big east or care about anything other who is paying them. If Montclair State was paying more than Villanova, they'd go to Montclair State.

why would anyone leave Boca Raton for Chi-raq

No young couch should touch this. Perfect opportunity for a guy itching for a second shot a high major. Will Wade/Chris Mack / any other guy involved in a major scandal.
It all depends on the person. I'd commit to Chicago for the next ten years before I had to spend six months in Boca. Someone else might think that's nuts.

Will an established coach want to take that chance? I assume there are other offers in the millions for any top coach. Finding their PJ is not an easy task. Thank God we found ours. I guess Joey Meyers didnt have any sons?

This is a total bottom-up thing. I would change everything. Rebrand. The uniforms, the logo, new coach, new engagement. Then hope to God you start playing competitively and stealing games.

Start there.

Butler had a decent run with Holtman; not Creighton, Marquette or Xavier, but not terrible.

DePaul has been so bad for so long. You would think they could find 2-3 “investors” in Chicago that can invest in a HC and players. Constant leadership issue at the top? Board doesn’t GAS? Even Father Gabe couldn’t fix it….

hard agree here. probably should have done it when the new arena opened.

in terms of ensuring continuity... 1) firing a coach midseason ?? 2) maybe continuity isnt the play

Talk about a coaching graveyard.

Post Joey Meyer (and remember even he went 11-18 and 3-23 in his last two seasons.

Pat Kennedy: 326-191 pre-DePaul/ 67-85 @ DP/ 106-221 post-DP (includes a 12-42 stint at Pace).

Dave Leitao: 22-35 pre-DePaul/ 58-34 first stint@DP/ 63-60 post-DP/ 69-113 second stint @DP

Jerry Wainwright: 186-145 pre-DePaul/ 59-80 @DP. Has not coached since.

Oliver Purnell: 394-281 pre-DePaul/ 54-105 @ DP. Has not coached since.

Tony Stubblefield: First coaching job 28-54 at DePaul.

That's 374-607 (.381) since 1997-98. This is a program that is 1,516-1,108 (.578) all-time.

You'd be the only 60-year old guy in America to leave the most beautiful city/climate in the country, a Final Four level program, and 3+ mil to coach in front of 2,500 people in a dark arena with no Chicago-bred players.
Just curious where you got 3+ mil? I only see 1.33 when I look. A 6 year 3 mil a year contract would be nice for a 60 year old guy. He’d have to work around 15 years to make that much.
