Transferring from UMass. I remeber us being somewhat interested the last time he transfered (I think same time Sterling did). Do we have interest? Do we have a chance?

Catholic man, he would be great for team chemistry... Only you old farts still feel the way you do about this situation, us kids we dont give a shit anymore who anyone wants to lay there head next to at night.

Derrick Gordon is not a good guy, he's a GREAT guy.

I can see this thread being moved to the Off The Ship board soon.

He might be a great guy but he's also a guard without an outside shot. Good defender though.

didn't know what jcalz was talking about and googled the fact that Derrick Gordon came out as gay. Not sure why you think he would be GOOD for team chemistry because he is gay.... nor do I agree that he would necessarily be BAD.... you make the same mistake that you think Catholicman made.

My question would be..... how many years eligibility would he have after already sitting out a year after already transferring from Western Kentucky?

every thread on this board these days needs to have some snarky remark.... getting old

You misunderstood, I am not saying chemistry will be great because hes gay. I am saying it will be great because hes an GREAT kid.... Being Gay should have nothing to do with anything..

My point in asking that question was this: You need a strong coach and a healthy locker room to have something like this work out. We have had neither.

I think it is foolish to have openly gay players on men's teams. But I wasn't trying to debate that point.

I don't agree with Catholicman's post on this, but what an ass you are. For one thing, any gay man would argue vehemently that those involved in pedophilia are NOT gay. You've made cracks like this before, and, to address the other side of it, do a little reading to discover that there is actually a lower rate of pedophiles in the Catholic Church than in the general population.

Please with the excuses. Priest attacked children, AND THEN WERE ASSIGNED TO OTHER PARISHES WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE, AND THEY DID IT AGAIN. OVER AND OVER. FOR DECADES. As bad as pedophilia is, the crime the church committed was far more heinous. Men have ailments of all kinds. That will never change. But the church failed very deeply, and obviously did it for self-serving reasons.

Donnie - Pedophilia never crossed by mind in making my admittedly snarky comment. Homosexuality did. What was my central motivation, however, is the extraordinary self-righteousness of Catholicman's religious/cultural posts. Warning: you're likely to hear more of my cracks when this level of self-righteousness once again rears its ugly head.

Agree with everything you said. But to turn every story about a gay man into "well the Church looked the other way on pedophilia," or to suggest that the pedophiles were all gay, and direct it on this board at a Catholic priest, won't fly.

Easy I have read dozens of articles and watched numerous interviews and pieces on him from ESPN and other news outlets. Also, watching someone handle such a situation so publicly with such class and humility shows one character.

May all your children be gay, may you love them all unconditionally, and may they teach you that being gay is not icky, evil or "sinful"

Interesting.

So it would be just fine to have closeted-gay players, but foolish to have openly gay players.

So team chemistry would be just fine with one member living a double-life, keeping a huge part of himself secret from what's suppose to be his second family, knowing that he will never, ever fit in, knowing that he being himself is just too dangerous a thing to show his team.

But an openly gay player would ruin team chemistry.

I wish no ill on anyone. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. But I can't wait for ideas like these to die.

I've met him lots of times, spoken to him quite a bit. He's from Plainfield, NJ, not too far from me and the Dunellen DPW (yup, I never forget).

He's also got a family situation that he has always handled with dignity, grace, and character.

Not a fit basketball-wise at Seton Hall, but he is truly an inspirational person. I sure as hell wouldn't have a problem if he was my son, although he'd be a better outside shooter if he was, LOL.

Please don't lump in all christians with Catholics.
Not sure what you mean by that. But I think we should all work on getting along right?

Sorry.
You certainly are.

SPK -- Good to hear from someone who has actually met the kid. I live close to Dunellen too...not sure what about the DPW.
