@Merge If trump said the same thing I'm sure you would have run with it right away.

If I wanted to nitpick about things Trump says, I would start about 243 threads per day. I rarely start any thread, and give him a pass on the far majority of his dumb comments.

I am confused as to how he was misleading as he presented the facts as he knew them at the time and just like every other scientist/doctor, he adjusted his position as he learned more and more about the disease.

Just like this thread. Fauci was interviewed a ton, an in many long formats. If you want to find something to nitpick about, you will find something.

He was pretty reasonable the whole time. He pretty much always said ... this is the situation today, but that could change quickly based on x y z.

His positions have changed often, seemingly on a whim. He is not trustworthy.

Does it surprise you that even medical experts have differing opinions and their points of view change over time as they get more data?

Stop excusing his misstatements. His point of view didn't change because he "got more data."

Hmmm, what I posted was actually a quote from 85 back in March defending that we should be listening To experts like Fauci and Birx.

and yes... we are still learning more about the virus each day.

You guys watch the 30 minute video? Or just comment on the 5 seconds?

I'm with you on that one.

I have a colleague who will clear that he is familiar with the contents of the foot but then when you press it you find out that you only read the inside jacket.

Fauci needs to go.

Start investing in tyvek suits and goggles! It will be all the rage for this year’s fall fashions!

No issue with his stance on the drug at all.

Fauci does not believe the studies have shown that the drug is effective against the the virus. This Dr. believes he has seen enough to say that it is. That is a disagreement. If you are taking saying one of them is right, and one is wrong... it is probably based on your own political bias.

That said... I did find his comparison to Brazil to be extraordinarily disingenuous.
Their death rate is plummeting since April 6th because they had only tested like 50,000 people and have now tested 12.6 million.
You will find the same trend of a decline in the death rate in every single county, with hydroxychloroquine use or not as they expand their testing capacity.

Adding the decline in the death rate as support for his view does make me question him more than I would have if he had just said that "these studies show it works"

CDC death rates have gone up by 11% by the end of November. 230,000 is now the projection in America by the end of the November. Not good with unfortunately no end in sight. The CDC is predicting NJ deaths will pick up the next 4 weeks. Remember that I was called a "fool" and "nut job" for saying Murphy will shut down the state in September? Its heading quickly toward that!

Here is the witch, also known as the speaker of the house, trashing a doctor. It is amazing how everyone in Washington has politicized this and it filters down to the governor and ordinary citizens.

Listen to women, support women, believe women!**

**- only when they agree with you

“Believe women” has nothing to do with political opinions.

Apparently Birx was pushing this would phase out on its own without doing what it is doing now and might’ve a part of the reason why we didn’t have a national plan, not the same plan everywhere, but ways to detect where the virus is spreading and stop it.

She was wrong, and yet you only criticize Fauci and give her a pass? Why?

It is phasing out. More evidence by the day that the virus runs its course no matter what we do.

I have no idea if hydroxychloroquine helps or not, have seen articles on both sides, but the question really to me is there a bias against the drug by the media and some doctors since Trump promoted it?

Nope. It was in April. She said the virus would spike and then fade away. That was wrong.

That lead the wh to play politics with this assuming it would only be the blue states that were hit instead of developing a nationwide plan.

It didn’t need to spike again. It only did because we let it.

The politicization of it has been ridiculous, but the president should not be pushing pills, especially when no studies supported the drug at the time.

People should not be criticizing Fauci for saying that there are no valid studies showing it is effective against Covid. That is his job, and he wasn’t wrong. He also said he will agree that it works if a valid study says it does.

I agree Trump shouldn’t have been pushing it, but I believe in his warped mind he was trying to give people hope.

By the same token, just because someone hates Trump or what he stands for doesn’t totally dismiss something he says. I have no issue with Fauci, but it seems there are few things I have read that show some positives with the drug, so hopefully more studies are still going on, I guess one issues were some dangerous side effects which might be hard to overcome especially since there are now some other treatments.
