For years now one of the pitches to recruits at Seton Hall was come to South Orange and play for a program that was tight, like a family. Well those words have now taken on a literal meaning with Dre Davis and his brother Tae commiting to the Pirates April 29, joining the Harris brothers who were already on the roster.

It's the first time in program history that a pair of brothers will be on the same roster.

Dre Davis, a ESPN 4 star player ranked #81 in his class is a 6-foot-5 wing transfer from Louisville, who averaged 7.4 points and 3.0 rebounds last season, who in a pinch can also play a small ball 4 for newly hired Shaheen Holloway.

“It was just how genuine and how intentional every interaction was with the coaches,” Dre said in a phone interview after the commitment was first reported by On3.com. “I just feel that the coaching staff kind of shares the same passion, energy and love for the game as I do, and I think that will really drive me and get the most out of my game and put me in a position to be successful as well as make me a better person off the court as well.”

Dre said Holloway told him they will play “position-less basketball” and that “one through three has to be able to shoot the ball, score the ball, makes plays for teammates, dribble, shoot, pass. We all obviously watched during the NCAA Tournament that [Saint Peter’s] team as well so that’s kind of what we talked about.”

College basketball SHU beat reporter extraordinaire Jerry Carino noted this when the commitment was announced.....

3 things to know about Dre Davis

1. He was a highly regarded recruit.

As you might expect from Louisville, Davis was a consensus four-star recruit ranked 117th nationally in the class of 2020. He originally committed to Nebraska, then decommitted, then made official visits to Purdue and Xavier before committing to Chris Mack and the Cardinals. He has three years of eligibility left.

2. He’s not known as a shooter.

Davis shot just 22.8 percent from 3-point range and 41.4 percent from the field over his two years at Louisville (he was much better from the free-throw line at .748). He started 23 games this past season and averaged 7.4 points, with a high of 18 against Miami, but struggled from the field down the stretch. He also averaged 3.0 rebounds in 20 minutes per game this past season.

3. His calling card is physicality.

From his days as a recruit, Davis’ calling cards were his strength and aggression. He projects as a second-unit guy who will defend, hustle and get to the rim. With the way Holloway prefers to play, using a deep rotation to keep defensive legs fresh, he’ll have a role. Don’t expect him to handle the ball much.

With this commitment and the ones that followed Seton Hall is now at its scholarship limit of 13.

Seton Hall’s projected depth chart for 2022-23:

Guards (7): Kadary Richmond, Al-Amir Dawes, Jamir Harris, Femi Odukale, Dre Davis, Jaquan Sanders, JaQuan Harris.

Wings (2): Tray Jackson, Tae Davis.

Bigs (4): KC Ndefo, Tyrese Samuel, Alexis Yetna, Abdou Ndiaye.
