Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski questions playing basketball games during coronavirus pandemic

Hall and Oats...we're on the same page. 💪Hope the Rat 🐀 is stewing after seeing this!

Covid spreads even when you follow the rules.
true but covid spreads alot more when you don't follow the rules...so your statement is ignorant. Its like saying you can get HIV when you follow the rules and have protected sex with less partners so go crazy out there buddy...

However with the phony coach K, he is a huge hypocrite with using covid as an excuse. First he is letting the players fly all across the country (not on charter planes but commercial airlines to go to all their home towns early and longer for the holidays. If spread of covid to his players were a the biggest concern he would say, "the players will be staying with us safety during the holidays so they don't get infected in their hometowns or via travel, family members and their recent contacts are not tested as regularly as we are in the ACC and will recommend staying here because we are really concerned about this thing." CDC director said most infections caused during family gatherings..= coach K hypocrite

Also..."these aren't paid players" what? They are paid by the "brotherhood" for life. Such a hypocrite.

It does but I am referencing the original poster’s statement that if collegians are given a choice that 99% would take the risk to play.
Their decision to potentially get sick puts everyone at risk whether they like it or not. Why put others in harms way.
If instance, would you be ok with someone driving drunk. People choose to be reckless like this but it has the potential to affect someone else that doesn’t want to take that chance.

We cannot live in a bubble. Shutting everything down is harmful to the mental health of many and has caused economic ruin for many more. Taking good precautions is sufficient. Those strongly at risk may need to take extra precautions. Young healthy people should not be sequestered any longer.

Some of the covid rules are not scientific, but more about virtue signaling.

Coach K might be the most disliked “winner” of all time, now that I think of it.

Boeheim is a close second I think. K has the right message but he’s the wrong messenger, and so is Pitino. Like Jerry said, I’d take it way more seriously if it came from Wright or Izzo. At this point I’m just hoping to get to the 13 game mark for NCAA qualification, but getting our “outbreak” out of the way earlier might help us down the road, at least until the next one...

What isn’t scientific? That the more you do at risk activities the more you are likely to spread a virus that that’s killed more people than many of the entire wars we have been except maybe WW1 and WWII?
Or the more we spread it the more we will have lock downs and kill businesses, school shut down.

No one said you need to live in an absolute bubble but your statements are reckless and ignorant.

Are you one of those people who still think masks don’t work?

Comparing a virus to a war(s) is incredibly stupid.

Your rapid use of ad hominem attacks indicates you are not thinking conceptually but in an emotional, reactionary way, making it impossible to dialogue with you fruitfully.

There's no coherent and uniform strategy, that's why this isn't working nationwide. Throw in election year politics and you have what we have in the U.S. The purpose of a lockdown (which I supported early on) was to figure out what the heck we were dealing with and firm up supply lines and essential needs before the infrastructure was overwhelmed. The former has progressed very well from the scientific side, the latter is better now, yes, but in a grinding fashion and still is not good because it also was not properly coordinated with any expertise.

We know what we're dealing with now. We should be transitioning to protect the at-risk. We know who is at risk, how to treat, how to prevent potential larger transmission. Be smart, follow the protocols. It's not the plague despite how scary media makes it out to be. We cannot keep destroying people's means to live anymore. It's not even helping because, again, there is a lack of uniformity. So why torch people's lives who are healthy?

Cases will continue to rise because of how the count is obsessed about on cable news. You probably have ~30M Americans who would ring a positive today (and God knows how crazy life would be if we tested for every asymptomatic virus people carry). It's like the election. The way they counted the mail-ins made it look like there was this underlying storyline that did not exist.

And now Coach K is sending his players back out to scatter across the U.S. Dumb. He's trying to avoid bad basketball under the guise of BS.

There are programs that have gotten it right in dealing with the pandemic and my daughter pointed to her alma mater BC as an example.BC became the first school to opt out of going to a bowl but instead thought that their football players would be better served by going home to be with family something they had not done since school resumed.

BC went five months without a single case of the virus and out of 9,000 tests administered there was just one player who tested positive. If you establish the right protocols and strictly speaking enforce them and most importantly the players and staff buy into it you can minimize the risk to the staff and players and continue to play.

Herein lies the entire problem with the response to the virus. People who support draconian restrictions, lmits on freedom, want to stop sports and many other aspects of life are thinking (and more importantly making decisions - often bad ones) emotionally, rather than factually and rationally.

I'm confident that rational people and those who make decisions based on facts will win out in the end as they always do. But it may be a while before the hysteria calms down. I truly feel bad for people like @HallBall02 who have been frightened by our so-called "leaders." They have pitted people like him/her against their fellow citizens for the sole purpose of dividing and controlling them.

Shu09 attacked my stance saying it was stupid...I responded saying the only thing stupid here is that we have to dumb down the numbers for a large group to understand how big this is. My ad hominem attacks? Try directing that at your boy shu09.

Also, who is not thinking conceptionally here? I never said shut down shut down anything, I said coach K was wrong as well for shutting down their non conf. But he was wrong not for solely shutting things down (1 game officially left on schedule) but because he wants to send their kids home all across the country and extend their time with their families over the holidays. Which is the worst thing to do if you are in fear of covid bc travel/family gatherings are #1 reason to contact the virus...

This is getting largely off the ship but i'll respond here bc i'm being addressed directly.

Coach K wasn't wrong about canceling the game if he was consistent with science which he'snot Sending players home for extending periods of time is worse (for covid spreading) than if they stayed in their duke bubble and played games with other teams testing.

Shu09, news to me that I support draconian restrictions, not rational, and I'm the one that is being controlled by politicians...

I'm speaking up in the hopes that some people on this board and in large parts of NJ wake up that this isn't a small deal like many here are making it out to be. I actually think you and Shu09 are the ones being controlled by Trump and others. The medical community follows my thinking not yours.

When catholic says "covid spreads even when you follow the rules" I'm going to speak up and say, your statement spurs more bad behavior that got us in this mess in the first place. That statement is not rational and is emotional. Following the rules will reduce the spread, by how much? I say a lot but that can be debated but we are in global pandemic, do your part as small as it might be!

What catholicman said encourages ppl not to follow the rules, which is bad for everyone. If more ppl followed the rules we MAY not be discussing closing down indoor dining, cancelled games, not seeing family during the holidays, etc.

I think Catholic man was speaking from a place that some mayors/governors are closing down indoors restaurants and adding curfews, etc without science/logic as a guide I agree that it is happening a bit too much in same areas, but there is data behind some of it, indoor restaurants (are supposivly from cuomo) one of the top reasons for spread of covid in NY. You have to take off your mask to eat and drink, covid spreads from water droplets in the air, makes sense right?

I'm anti closing down restaurants and bars bc it is a death sentence for many small businesses i'm for restrictions though, 25%-75% indoor occupancy. Curfews, I go back and forth on bc those people will just gather at homes.

Sh09, i'm not against you or catholicman, i'm for you, for all of us, maybe selfishly. This isn't a political thing. Many still think of covid as just the flu, its not. Its much worse (for heaven's sake, look up stuff outside of your media bubble) and this will get worse the next two months, don't stop living your life but please alter it temporally. If you are a die hard American, do your part. If you are not, do it for the nurse that may be taking care of you, a neighbor, or at least for the 2020-21 seton hall basketball season!

The reason I said you can get it even if you follow all the rules was to make the point that it is wildly contagious. I know people who took every precaution and still mysteriously got the virus. This includes doctors, nurses, priests, and people who were especially at risk. Draw whatever conclusion you wish from that. But claiming my point is irrational is so weird and childish. I took a long break from this board because of such immature, strident, non-rational behavior. Perhaps its time to take another break.

If you think what I post is immature and non rational, you may need a break from your media bubble not this message board.

Everybody needs to hear opinions of the other side. This way they can figure out if they are in the extremes. If you discovered you are in an extreme viewpoint, at that point you may be able to move closer to center.

I called you no names. The only thing I said that one of your statements you made was ignorant. Sorry if it offended you but I had to come back strong because it is viewpoints like yours that proliferated this mess and deserved a strong response.

I don’t feel that the vast majority of posters think I am hysterical. But thanks for sharing your opinion of me.

You called me a number of perjorative names, failing to make any rational point. Now you are trying to blame for proliferating this mess (in your words). That real chutzpah. You threw molotov cocktails at me when I had said very little.

Huh? What did I call you? And yes ppl thinking they can’t do anything about it or (ignoring medical experts ) and acting like it’s not a big deal is what made this mess worse. You were the one that said keep old people and unhealthy locked at home and let the rest of the world go on normally.

Almost 1/3 of ppl are prediabetic or diabetic alone. Add in ppl with cancer or in treatments, obese, immunocompromesed, kidney issues, etc etc. lots of ppl would have to be locked up. Plus we don’t know long term affects for healthy ppl yet. Ignorant statement and is why I must come back strong. Maybe not to change your mind but maybe to confirm thoughts of another poster reading this.

I said at risk people should sequester more, but that quarentining healthy people is not the answer, that we cannot all live in a bubble. Btw, my post apparently was deleted by someone not long after I posted it.

You did not come back strong. You came back irrationally and with ad hominem attacks. Signs of a weak argument.

Tough to go anti-establishment. Most buckle.

Two septuagenarians as phony as hell raining down on Oats.

When K and Boeheim are against you, you know you're doing it right. Unfortunately most of the college basketball media took K's side on this, so Oats came out with his late Saturday night "apology."

The coronavirus shouldn’t be political but to many like you it is. Very sad.

I don’t know how many times before the election, ppl told me that this thing will disappear after the election.

It’s not political. You were the one that said I was brainwashed by leaders. You tried to make it political I responded.
