to me there are 2 key elements that were the common link in our success last year; Sonogo being the glue guy on D, and Whitehead's ability to make a play and takeover (somewhat being mitigated by Carrington's play so far). He didn't really have to get overly sophisticated in trying to get an offensive scheme going when it was clearly get the ball to Whitehead and let him make something happened. More times than not, it all worked out last year. This season, it's a different story. Teams are going to pack it in on us to try to take away the dribble drive; then we're really going to be reliant on hitting outside shots to keep everyone honest. Jones is not taking the 25 footers that Whitehead would take on occasion. When Powell gets cold, and Desi and Delgado force it under coverage, we're going to have problems. Carrington can average 20+ a game this year, but that is not enough.
I was hoping Willard would have something else going on offensively this year, but have yet to see it. We're going to have a hard time winning games in the Big East if nothing evolves beyond last night's approach.
