Rutgers lost by 34 at GW today. Wow. Their 4 wins this year are vs. Rutgers-Newark, Howard, Central Arkansas, and Central Connecticut.

Is it possible that Hobbs pulls the plug on him at the end of the season? I think they owe him in excess of 2 million. Seems unlikely but man this might be their worst team since the Littlepage era. I don't think they have any recruits lined up for next season yet either.

I thought he'd get another year based on how much they've paid out for athletic mistakes recently (Pernetti, Flood, Rice, Herman, etc) but he may just force their hand. Question is who can they get to go there. They are probably the worst P5 program in the country right now.

Names I keep hearing from the RU followers I know have either Hurley, with Danny preferred or our former coach, TA .

Hobbs will sell Jordan's ouster and go hard after Hurley. Seems like a no-brainer.

Remember Hobbs is an x factor. If he snags Danny Hurley I will projectile vomit across the internet.

As for Bobby, forget it, the state would have to levy a $10K surcharge on every one of us to buy him out and then pay him.

I could see Amaker or Hurley being the next coach but both guys hold all the cards. Would Rutgers give either guy at least a 6 year deal and over $2 million per season? The only way they are getting somebody of stature is to overpay.

I think Jordan has another year with the cost of the Flood buyout a factor plus Ash has made it clear that RU is going to have to substantially increase the budget for assistant coaches if they want the program to be a factor . Could be too much money for RU to absorb in one year buying out coaches in FB and BB and an increased budget for FB.

I don't see Mrs. Amaker going for that move at all. Danny is better off at Rhode Island, he could do a hell of a lot better than Rutgers.

I think that RU goes for an assistant coach with a top program. That's Hobb's M.O. And it fits RU's basketball budget.

They'll be filling the RAC this season - with opponents fans and even they might not show up.

They didn't even draw 1,000 for their game the other day according to Carino. Monmouth should pack the place and blow the doors off!

i don't get the sense danny would want to coach at rutgers, major uphill climb, as for amaker, what is in a move to rutgers for his wife academically?

Why would Hurley turn down his Alma Mater with a full cupboard of players for the bare barren landscape of RU?

Why? Some possibilities:

He still holds a grudge against us

He wants to coach at a major fb school.

I don't see Danny, at this stage of his career, wanting to deal with the long-range project of trying to revive Rutgers in the tough Big-Ten. Amaker, with B-10---though not stellar---experience is a better fit. I see Danny going Bobby's route: a big-time program out-of-the-region.

I see Jordan pulling a Michael Cuddyer move and stepping aside ahead of schedule at the end of the season.

BTW, everyone -- even non-Met fans -- should check out the piece

Restores faith in the modern athlete. Pure class.
Read this yesterday...curious if there was some some sort of buyout that's not being reported. Cuddyer seems like a great guy, but that would change my perspective on his decision if there was. Was also surprised, given the length and detail of his article, there was really no mention of the Mets' 2015 season.

Regarding the original topic, can't see D Hurley or Amaker having any interest in Rutgers. Taking that job has destroyed about as many careers as ours in recent years.

There was some sort of buyout involved, but remember, the Players Association has so much control that they demand it -- and command it. It would make no sense in the private sector, and really shouldn't in baseball, but it would get sticky if teams apply pressure on aging/underperforming players on back ends of deals (a lot bigger than his) to retire.

I hope Pat Hobb pulls a Pat Hobbs and gives Jordan an untenable contract.

How many more NJ college basketball programs can Hobbs screw up???

The Big 10 looks like it's going to be a disappointing year in college hoops. It's Michigan State, Maryland and Purdue and a huge drop off after that. I think Amaker and/or Hurley can turn the ship around at Rutgers. But again, I think they would want at least a 6 year deal and for minimum 2 mil+ per season. Are either of them going to get that kind of contract anywhere else? Debatable.
