Box Score

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Lauren Fischer (Robbinsville, N.J.) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of an eventual 2-1 setback for the Seton Hall softball team (22-23-1, 7-12 BIG EAST) against St. John's (29-15, 15-4 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon. Both sides will conclude the regular season at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field with a doubleheader tomorrow.

Fellow senior Noel Lent (Yaphank, N.Y.) provided the Pirates with their offense in the defeat, smashing a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to give The Hall a 1-0 lead. The Pirates left nine runners on base in the contest and stranded the bases loaded in the second and seventh innings.

Turning Points
With The Hall ahead 1-0, Fischer worked around a pair of two-out walks in the top of the fifth to keep her no-hitter intact through five. After the Pirates stranded two in the bottom of the fifth, St. John's notched its first hit of the day with a leadoff bunt single in the top of the sixth. Two batters later Krystal Puga lined a home run to right-center field to give SJU a 2-1 advantage.

Down to its final at-bat, The Hall drew three-straight walks with two away in the bottom of the seventh to put both the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position. St. John's hurler McKenzie Murray, who relieved Tori Free in the sixth, managed to escape the jam by locating a fastball on the edge of the outside corner for a game-ending called strike three.
