Fitting Sequence

Was Okorafor on the bench last night? A conspicuous absence in the box score following his best offensive showing as a pirate.

He was. Sha said Okorafor told him he hurt his ankle in warmups. Sha didn’t seem pleased with it either, so I read it like he said he did something to his ankle but could play and Sha said never mind.

yes.. on the bench. based on how the others played i would have given him a shot. one of the pc guys walzed in for a layin with gus right there. just dribbled to the hoop and scored as if i was guarding him. i like gus and hope he stays. but i didnt see the same guy so many here are talking about last night.

You will eat these words, both are first year players. Gus if he stays will be a force in the big east. Understands the game, needs to bulk up but has a good outside shot. Only a matter of time before he’s getting more and more time. Doing things most people don’t recognize, excellent movement without the ball, screens, watch the shots guys get from his movement. That’s why Sha is playing him. Moves better than Sandro as a Freshman. Goodwill and Gus are going to get better and better. They are probably battling against each other in practice. They are Freshman big men, what do people expect.
Sandro was far more skilled as freshman than Gus currently is. He was a rotation player and averaged 10 minutes a game on an NCAA Tournament team while playing behind a double double machine.

Really they shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. On this team, freshman Sandro might have played 30 minutes a night.

Gus has some ability, works hard and brings energy. In due time, I think he will be able to make a contribution somewhere.

BTW he does not have a good outside shot. He's 0-9 on threes and 7-14 on FTs. That's an indication his range is limited.

As a freshman.

All 3 bigs are defensive liabilities but the offense runs smoother when Gus is on the court due to his ability to set a solid screen & knowledge of correct spacing. Probably learned that at Wisconsin.

If Gus commits to getting in much better shape over the summer he can be a contributing piece to a decent team next year but I have doubts it will be us.
Gus is the only big on the roster who has played the sport for more than a few years. He has a fundamental foundation that is far better than the others because he's probably been playing organized hoops for a decade.

Felton led the charge back and coach sits him last three minutes. Why Sha?
Not the first time either. Hope I’m wrong but I can’t see him staying with us with the way he’s used. We are going nowhere and developing underclassman should be a priority at this point. There are teaching moments for all players for but they don’t always have to end up by parking a guys ass on the bench.

Sha is all over the place with Gus’s playing time. Prior to last nights 17 minutes he’s averaged 6 minutes a game in January’s 6 prior games - 2DNP, 2 with 7 minutes, 1 ten minute and 1 with 12. I have no idea if he’s Big East quality, but we’ll never find out with these playing times.

Dual needs more basketball sense. Doesn’t seem to “get it” yet. You only get it by playing more. There is definitely hope. Prince would be a very good spare part on a good team. Hope he stays.
Sha banked a great deal on Garwey ( and I agreed and was excited) . The Kid is not what I thought and only recently seems to coming along. He needs to get stronger:.he does have an interesting history
