Florida State football

Very tough decision. If you want the best 4 teams at the end of the season I think they got it right because the FSU QB got hurt. If you want to reward a full season should have been FSU. I would have picked FSU but understand why they did not.

Its not often that I’m happy to see deserving teams get screwed, but in this case I’m happy about it.

Florida state had no chance vs Michigan.

Said everyone when the Giants beat the Bills, when the Giants beat the Patriots twice, when the Patriots beat the greatest show on turf.....yet they all had one thing in common. Really good defenses. FSU deserved a shot.

Comparison doesn’t work in college vs pros. ACC was weak this year. I think the committee created the most competitive football playoff setup.

Alabama-Texas rematch for the finals. Bama wins. Shuts everyone up

Washington vs. Michigan in the final with Washington winning, best coach wins.

Other than for some sort of cosmic "fairness" purposes (and fans of team), is there anyone who would see FSU in the playoffs? Including Bama seems in line with its "mission"--to identify and rank the "best teams"--and its selection criteria, which includes the unavailability of key players "that likely will affect [the team's] postseason performance."

1. MISSION

The selection committee’s task will be to select the best teams, rank the teams for inclusion in the playoff and selected other bowl games and then assign the teams to sites.

2. PRINCIPLES
The selection committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
Conference championships won,
Strength of schedule,
Head‐to‐head competition,
Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.

I feel bad for FSU but I really don't see the controversy here. When you are down your best player, you are not the same team that went 13-0 and won the conference championship. They were leapfrogged by the SEC Champion, who just beat the No. 1 team that won 29 straight games. We are going to a 12 team playoff next year. Hopefully it's the last time we have one of these situations where an undefeated conference champion is left out of the playoff.

The bigger controversy is the fact that the 12 team playoff expansion is ridiculous. Should’ve been 8…

Were the Giants missing Eli Manning when they beat the Pats twice? Bad comparison

FSU is undefeated in a major conference with no slouch of a schedule. ncaa football has basically turned into figure skating.

ncaa simply cant have SEC not be in the playoffs. bad for business, so they hosed FSU.

I don’t think it’s any surprise the committee made sure an SEC team got in. Quite frankly, Im more than a little surprised they didn’t put two teams in from the conference.

No doubt UGA is one of the best 4 teams in the country. Just a shame they went undefeated during the regular season & can't join the party. Can't wait till they go to 12 teams next year but you know darn well 13 will have a legit gripe.

Auburn had Bama beat and the punt returner slipped causing a fumble to set up the winning drive. Field was not wet to my knowledge so no idea why he slipped but talk about good fortune for Bama!

Agree 100% they are top 4 right now. And if the committee looks at FSU now and UGA do they think FSU with the 3rd string QB is better? They sure ranked them that way. Is FSU with the 3rd string better than Oregon, Penn State, tOSU, Ole Miss?? Seems they ranked based on their eyes the top 4, but once they got to the 5 spot record mattered.

This is where the college football playoff is wrong. A playoff should be based on selecting the four teams that are deserving based on the results on the field, not the subjective choosing of the four best teams. You can certainly make an argument that Alabama and Georgia are better than FSU, but you can't say they are more deserving. Of course, the committee could not select Bama over Texas based on the H2H loss, so they screwed the undefeated ACC champ. If we're reached the point where a 13-0 Power 5 champ that beat two SEC teams during the season gets left out than it's become a popularity contest, not a playoff.

Carino put it so well. College hoops is egalitarian. Any school has a chsnce to make some noise in March. College football? The usual 5-6 suspects.

FSU got hosed no doubt. Does your record mean nothing?

If there was any fair way to do this, they should have scheduled a play in game between Alabama and FSU. Winner gets into the playoff. I dislike FSU immensely by the way. When Bama beat Georgia I knew there was gonna be trouble with the selection committee.

Very sad from a societal perspective. Politicians should have nothing to do with this.
I disagree if you feel an injustice has been done you should try to correct it through any means necessary.

.And next year with 12 teams in the playoffs the controversy will be about the power five teams dominating the selection process , which they should given the. depth of talent they have to the exclusion of the lesser conferences.

And Michigan will get stomped as usual by an SEC team. I’d be surprised if Bama doesn’t win it all.

Georgia should be more pissed than FSU. They lost their first game in over 2 years by a FG and dropped 5 spots. They are the 2 time defending champs. They truly got screwed.

Then they should have at least 2 SEC teams in. Georgia is by far the best team in the country. They lost by 3 for the first time in over 2 seasons.

Disagree. The win their conference championship without their QB. They were undefeated. If you’re going to weight conferences then Washington has no business jumping that many spots beating Oregon. That conference is no stronger than ACC.

If they are going to 12, it might as well go to 16. Same amount of weeks. Problem is they don’t want 1 playing 16 and so on so by giving 1-4 a bye they make the first weekend more competitive and prevent an embarrassing loss for a power5.

Pac 12 was a much stronger conference than the ACC this year. Georgia is a 14 point favorite over Florida State in the Orange Bowl. Georgia would be favored against any of the remaining 4 also.

13 will have a gripe about getting in the Top 12, but no reasonable expectation for a NC. Just like the Penn State Ninny Lions and Liberty would have a chance this year.

Which is hypocrisy by the committee. They went by the eye test that 4 schools are better than FSU. Did their eye test really say FSU with QB3 is better than UGA? If so great. But it sure seems to me they used a different system for who they slated 5th than they used to determine the top 4.

FY24 state budget of Florida includes $1M allocated to fight for FSU in court
