Exactly. This was a really good read and I hope Will can live a happy life without bigots putting him down.

Umm, wasn't that the point of the article?
Agree with SPK: good for him, but who cares? Not the first, and he won't be the last.

I'd crack a joke towards Nova, but we're the program with 2 former players being tried for armed robbery, kidnapping and drug possession.

Everyone can congratulate him on his homosexuality right now, but its too bad (for him) that he will have to answer to God instead of you people.

By ALL accounts, Sheridan is a terrific young guy - socially conscious, kind, intelligent, and has used made the most of his God-given talents in school, on the court, and in the arts. I can't imagine what more God would have him be.

It's not Will Sheridan who is falling short of God's expectations...

Well said [as usual] Source!

Everyone deserves the chance to - live to love and be loved.

I met young Will with his parents at an SHU vs Michigan St - Jimmy V Classic game back during his early HS years. Tommy Amaker was recruiting him. Parents sat in front of us.

Will was almost 6'8 back then but all his parents talked about was Will's solid education. Will was very polite. Refreshing.

If you're a Catholic, please don't speak for the rest of us. Hubris is one of the seven deadly sins, and it's pretty prideful to assume the role of judge.

I am not a Catholic. And what does pride have to do with anything? I didnt say this, the Bible which is the unfallible Word of God said it. Dont shoot the messenger. And you all can say its not your God, and thats absolutely true. But you will still answer to Him one day because He is the only God.

Whatever type of Christian you might be, it's not your job to be the judge and jury. Quite certain the Bible says that, too.

ah, this is a basketball board and I'm doing no good continuing this...

ahhhhhh, the unfallible word of god....WRITTEN by MAN. You're a fool. The good old bible. Being taken out of text since it's origin. Good for you Will. Be yourself.

Love conquers all. NPR yesterday morning interviewed the weekend anchor on CNN, who also just came out of the closet. He's got a book that either just came out or is about to. He's a very good anchor in my opinion.

I never quite figured out why this is so important, to make public announcments on this topic, but there must be a reason. The need to belong to a group, maybe? Giving yourself a strong identity of who you are? A need to confess? Just not sure. Maybe it's different for everyone. I went to a marriage encounter weekend recently and when you get up in front of a bunch of people you don't know and talk about aspects of your relationship with your wife, it is a moving, powerful experience. Maybe it's similar.

Gotta love bigotry defended by religion. About the only way you can do it nowadays.

Good for Will Sheridan, it's too bad some people are so caught up in nonsense that they hate people for being different.

Well, I'm not gay, but I have eaten plenty of pork and shellfish, which are also forbidden by "the infallible words of God," per your reasoning.

Now, how am I supposed to explain to God that I was no match for the temptation posed by shrimp scampi or Taylor ham? That's my problem, though, just like Will Sheridan has his, I guess. In any case, none of it should be any concern of yours.

Guys: This is a sports board. We do not all have the same religious values and this is not the place to discuss theology. Let's not let this thread degenerate further.

I'll never understand why people care so much about things that have no impact whatsoever on their lives. Just because he has different preferences/views doesn't give you or anyone else the right to blast him. Worry about yourself not someone you'll prolly never even meet that doesn't impact your life

If you ever know someone that was gay, you would understand that it is not their choice. They are born that way. Representative Steve Simon from Minnesota put it pretty well recently "How Many more Gay people does God have to create before we ask ourselves, whether or not God actually wants them around?"

There are so many outrageous bible quotes, most priests I have met acknowledge that the bible is not close to infallible, and the best priests I have met privately say it is a guidebook for unconditionally loving people not to be taken literally.

Take this thread to "Life off the Ship" This can make for a quality discussion provided that we are respectful of each other's opinion... See you there!!!

In my Catholic grammar school, it was taught as a matter of curriculum that the Bible was to be interpreted contextually, rather than literally. Overall, it was a pretty lousy school, but I have always appreciated that well-grounded approach.

Look what poor Vito Spatafore had to go through when he was outed.

Just when you think people in the world are becoming more acceptable of people who aren't the same as them....

somebody has to bring it back down to the gutter... Damn you 08..

I just started a thread on the "Life off the Ship" site. Feel free to read it and pelt me as you deem fit; however, please keep this board dedicated to SHU Hoops.

Actually as a true Christian, it most certainly IS my job to declare the Word of God no matter who agrees or disagrees. It is a black and white issue in the Bible. You practice homosexuality, you are worthy of death. That is what the Bible says. Hello, why do you think Soddom and Gomorrah were destroyed with fire and brimstone from heaven? Where do you suppose the word "sodomy" came from?? And btw, I know another popular (unglodly and unBiblical) mindset is "dont judge". Wrong! Actually those who have the Holy Spirit are not only expected to be able to judge by the the Spirit, but are also commanded to! In one instance, the apostle Paul judged a situation regarding incest situations going on in one particular church without having even been present. The "dont judge" misconception comes from the Bible chapter that talks about not judging someone else's "mote" in their eye when you have a "beam" in your own eye. In other words, if you are committing rape, incest, and molestation, dont reprimand someone who is having oral sex with their boyfriend/girlfriend. Its hypocritical. Get rid of your own sin in that area and THEN chastise the other person.

Infallible Word of God. Written by men of God by the direct inspiration of God. Your right though, many do take texts out of context (see my last post)

Actually I don't hate Will Sheridan or any other gay person. I hate the spirit of homosexuality. I hate the sin. Same as God. He hates the sin, loves the sinner, wants the sinner to come out of the sin. So because I take a stand against wrong, that makes me a "bigot"?? Arent you a "bigot" too? Against Nazis, Communists, child molesters, rapists, Madoff's, cheaters, liars, etc?? Oh, but now society and the media/Hollywood says its ok to be gay so we'll take "homosexuality" off the list of acceptable bigotries.

LOL taylor ham and shelfish? Have you actually READ the Bible? Actually scratch that question, I know plenty of people who have read it multiple times but yet are still as blind as the day they started. You are right though that it is not my concern, and indeed I am not one bit concerned about Will Sheridan. Just stating the accurate fact that he is living a sinful Biblically unacceptable lifestyle and he will answer for it one day.
