The good.

Our defensive free throwing shooting has been superior :D

62.1%. 11th in the nation

The bad

Our offensive free throw shooting has been terrible :(

64.0% 303rd in the nation

Obviously now that we're into the Big East season teams will shoot much better from the line. So that means we too have to follow suit.

I thought at season's beginning we would hover around 70% from the line. To date I could not have been more wrong.

Plus, given our style of play, we rely on attacking the rim and fighting for offense rebounds and put backs. That puts us on the line often as a team.

Our FTA:FGA number is 88th in the country. So it's a big part of our offensive production.

Our bigs struggle greatly from there. Whitehead, Carrington, and Desi have been good, but Gordon has had trouble.

I think we need to work on the defensive FT shooting much harder. It's the only way to make up for the pitiful work on the other end.

Nzei is better than Sonogo. May need to keep Desi and Veer on the floor at the same time. Braeden Anderson is the team's best free throw shooter at 80 percent! Less looks but the percentages are what they are!

So, can someone tell me what a coach does to finish number one in the nation in FT defense? Seems like that could win you some games over the course of a season. No seriously!!

playing good defense and making the opponents legs tired, will lower their FT%. Unfortunately, the players in the BE are terrific athletes who shoot FT's very well.

theres really nothing you can do about it besides making sure you foul their bad FT shooters. Obviously we gotta fix it on the offensive end. i had no idea it was that bad. one person that comes to mind is veer. im not sure hes even made one yet. delgado made 2/2 during wichita st for the first time ever i think.

Sans one team that as even consistently poor at he FT line of late (not just this season). Really no excuse since its coachable and can be improved if practiced, provided proper instruction in technique has even given. Oh what a novel thought.

FT shooing is improvable. Takes a ton of hard work and practice to refine technique, establish rhythm, and then translate all in the heat of the game, but it absolutely can be accomplished.
