A few years ago while involved with local and state level politics I had my eyes opened as to why many candidates run when their odds of winning our so low.

Looking at the wide field of Democrats I see it happening again.

When a candidate runs they can form their campaign and raise funds. Any funds left over after the campaign can stay in the campaign and can be used by the candidate to make contributions to other candidates. So even with the loss of candidate can gain some financial clout for the future.

Having the wide field of Democrats will allow them to attract funding from every faction with Democratic leanings and then direct all the leftover funds to candidate who prevails.

So that's pretty much going to lock up the VP spot for Beto, isn't it? lol

I don't think most people donating to democrats will be upset that part of their donation will be used for the eventual nominee as they probably all hate Trump... but that is a valid point about milking the respective groups within the party's reach for sure.

I don't typically donate money to politicians but did chip in $3 this time around to someone I thought was worth seeing on the debate stage, Pete Buttigieg.
