Game Thread: Seton Hall vs. Providence

Great run…love this group playing with energy and winning bball at the same time

We complain about sha but this Kim English..he ain’t it
English seems to have quite the chip on his shoulder as well. I don't know if he was always that way or simply adopting the New England "yaaaa think yaaa betttaaahhh than meee" thing. Yelled something out towards Coleman after he missed that first FT, it seemed.

I really wanted this one tonight.

In the movie the Polar Express there’s this know-it-all character that’s always annoying the others.
I know sooner or later you are going to start telling us how much you know about trains.
I know I know, the high and mighty on this board could never imagine their seton hall team being dishonest. How dare somebody think critically.

He screamed “ball don’t lie”. It’s a common phrase. Means that after a bad call the “ball” will correct it in the means of our best player missing the free throw.

Coleman absolutely did not deserve 3 foul shots. He was fouled not once but twice by the same player before he made any type of shot movement.

I don’t understand how this team can look like they truly wish the season was over like they did in the first half and then put up very good fights in the2nd half. Doesn’t make sense.

I also don’t understand how Aligbe could put up complete zeros across the box score in multiple games and then have good performances the last couple. Having a bad game happens, putting up zeros across the board is different. Doesn’t add up. But at least he looks competent lately.

Oh I agree it was a horrible call and didn't know that was what he yelled out. Even after watching the replay and hearing the whistle blow after the first "foul" (not called) but on the second contact/foul.

And I think the ref who reversed it was that one who made the horrible call a few years ago that gifted us a W. Forget his name.

When you watch the replay the refs arm goes up when Coleman is shooting. No doubt the foul was called late but it was the correct call from a replay perspective.

Prince has been the most consistent guy lately, for sure.

I'm hesitant to read too much into any of the stats or good play guys put up because of how these games go. Even ones that don't get away from us, but especially those where a team gets up big. It just changes the whole level of intensity and play from the opponent.

I didn't see that angle. Only the angle where they showed the close up on Coleman in comparison to when the ref blew the whistle.

I don’t think that matters when going to replay. They are capable of overturning or changing it based on evidence. I could be wrong tho

English was chirping and bitching all night at the refs. He has a lot to say.

I don’t think much of him. Never did. For whatever reason he got hyped after one subpar year and one ok year at Mason.

Not saying he can’t be ok, but he isn’t nearly what some of these other mid major coaches have going coming into the power conferences.

Reason Aligbe could operate later in the game is we went small & didn’t have Godswill or Gus clogging up the middle. He has very good post moves.
Yea but I'm not sure its sustainable against good Big East front lines. I have no problem based on how he's played with him being part of the core group we seek to retain, but the front line needs to be beefed up in a major way. I wouldn't be comfortable with him as a small ball starting 4 unless we get a really, really good 5. And ideally we have two better legitimate front court players at the 4/5 and him as the bench piece as a small ball option.

I thought he did a really good job last year because they lost Hopkins early, who was one of the POY favorites in the league. Carter stepped up and showed a side of his game no one had previously seen consistently, and became basically the best player or one of the best players in the league and an eventual first round pick. So in year 1 I gave him lots of props. But maybe that was more about Carter just dragging that team on his back in a way no one would have predicted before the season.

I think he's been "meh" to date this year.

Agree, we got killed on the boards when we went small. Prince would do well on a team with a 5 that was a threat from 3.

Yes, absolutely agree with this. Noted the same on another thread. We played our best when we got their bigs in foul trouble and could go small.

Coleman was fouled on the floor. English had every right to yell when he missed. Let’s not go down 15 to a bad Providence team next time.
