Gary Cohen And Dave Popkin Post Game Show

KW: "We didn't come out with enough toughness" (In the first half)

And , " we have to grow up mentally".

Honest but disappointing.

Yes, disappointing. But maybe this isn't on Willard this year. He has been far more vocal this season than in any before. Eventually you have to look at the players. A coach can only do so much.

Someone in the locker room has to step up. We need a fiery presence or two and unfortunately that's not in Whitehead's or Delgado's personalities. So that fire must come elsewhere.

IMO time for Carrington to step up. His play has been much better the last two games. His talent is undeniable. And he unlike the other two players is vocal.

I'm just trowing this out and could be wrong as no doubt Willard knows his team a ton more than I do. But maybe you make Carrington the captain. He's young but just cocky enough to get the job done. He's also liked and well respected by his teammates. Meaning you hope that Whitehead and Delgado don't take it as a slight to them.

If you feel like that's a possibility then include Whitehead as a co-captain. More for his ability then his fiery personality.

Agree Dan. KW has to do something to motivate these kids.

But why is this never an issue with Tony Bozzella? Even with an influx of new starters every year. No process required- instant buy-in.

After watching KW for 6 years, he just doesn't make hungry believers out of his players -even with his new ranting approach.

Not his fault, it's just not in there.

Was down for game. Staff coaching thes guys entire game. Not sure Delgado is in shape yet. He seemed winded every time he came out which was often. Better learn how to handle half court trap zone. I think IW has to go to foul line on this.

He may look like he is out of shape...but why should he, a young man who played all summer has 7 games under his belt and out of shape?

you get the feeling we've got some prima donnas on this team. Sometimes follow up Sophomore seasons are the toughest.

I usually respect your opinion. But here I would strongly disagree. These are hard working kids that really want to win badly. They are a good group of players learning what it takes to win in college.

While it is undeniable that coaching and roster management has been an issue in each of Willard's first 5 years, I don't believe that has been the case so far this year. I feel as though Willard has put these players in a good position to succeed, but that simply has not fully translated on the court. It's trending upward, but still a work in progress. Right now, if everyone stays this year, plus add Myles Powell and Jevon Thomas next year to the mix, and perhaps another big. This team could be a real contender. They finally have the athleticism and playmaking ability, now just have to get game tough.

KW has had many of these guys for 2 seasons now. How long does it take to make them game tough?

I do feel there are several plays on both offense and defensive end where there is a complete lack of concentration. Pretty sure the announcer during the LBS game said KW told him he knows IW takes a few plays off a game.

The Hall was up 17-10 or 17-11, they were fine to start the game... Now if someone could have stepped out on Cavanaugh and not allowed him so many open looks in the 1H that might have helped to actually keep the lead.

Pirate64, it's not a switch you can turn off and on...but it's more like a lighting dimmer. The lights gradually come on. Last year, a game like this may have been like our experience at Wichita State. Surely, this was not the best Pirate effort, but they hung in there until the end. Sometimes our fans get so critical of Willard and the team, I don't think they see the big picture. For example, how many times have teams had heralded recruiting classes that show signs of great things, but really only put it all together their Junior and Senior seasons. I believe St. John's has had that happen a few times in my lifetime. Even SHU's Dehere/Walker teams were not good their Freshman year, and I may be wrong, but I believe they really started picking things up the second half of their sophomore seasons. {Ok, I just looked it up, and as I suspected, they were 12-7 until February of that year, and by the way, losing a number of tough road games in the process, including a heartbreaker at Fordham early in the season}

What an indictment on the coach's shortcomings. If we had players who could police their own locker room, motivate the guys, get them to buy-in for a full season, then Willard would've had success here because that's his weakness as a coach.

Now we have to go off-script with Ish out. Hold onto your hats.

Anyone who watches basketball knows what the main issue is, this team has nobody that resembles a PG.

The assist to turnover ratio is about as bad as I have ever seen on a team.

This is on Willard for constructing the team like he has. A pg of any kind would have been useful this year.

The Soph class is about as talented as we have had with Eddie, Dre, MTE, and D Dunks.

But we don't have a pilot to fly the ship and it shows.

P.S. Angel is either out of shape or hurt. He doesn't look close to the same player as last year.
