Shutdown is stupid, but everyone is getting paid so calm down. He could have said what he needed to in 2 minutes. Dictator...lolA month without pay for 800,000 people for nothing.
Says we can work out a deal in a couple weeks but if he doesn't get what he wants he will declare a national emergency?
He thinks he is a dictator.

Oh the horrors...Not sure if you know anyone impacted by the shutdown but I do. 2 relatively young families both with one source of income each.
The amount of stress placed on them because of this shutdown and the future uncertainty is horrible All for a wall which has been rejected by the majority of Americans.
I'll make sure I tell them to calm down next time I see them and they are worried about these next couple of weeks.

Stop. This is no different than any previous shutdown, except for the length of it.
Politicians on both sides suck.
Don’t be silly. As I said before, the shut down was stupid and should never have happened. This was all about politics plain and simple. 0.1% of the budget For things essentially both sides have historically agreed. Is empathy that difficult?
This was an unnecessary strain on a lot of people.
I could have bought the argument that Trump had the mandate for a wall a year ago but into 2019 that mandate is gone.
We really do need to trim the size of the government. It's amazing how many "non-essential" personnel there are.
I'm also amazed how so many people don't have emergency funds exactly for situations like this. You should have, at minimum, 3-6 months of living expenses saved up. If missing a paycheck or two sends you to a food bank, you have major financial management issues.
If you are a living paycheck to paycheck, why on earth would you have children?I dont disagree. People should be more prepared. But are you married with kids?

Whose life goes perfectly? Are we talking about couples that made good decisions and suffer a life and financially altering event or a couple that never planned for anything and are still living paycheck to paycheck.I'm glad your life went perfectly without any financial difficulty where you can't imagine that not being paid for a month while supporting a wife and kids wouldn't ever have been a problem.
I wasn't as lucky and did experience financial difficulty in my life years ago so it is not hard for me to see things from their perspective.
I dont disagree. People should be more prepared. But are you married with kids?
No and no. What does that have to do with anything? I live within my means and other people should too, whether they are single or married with 1 kid, 4 kids, whatever.
It's a simple equation. Spend less than you earn and you'll be just fine.
+1. It’s called being an adult and responsible. We did the same...sacrificed one income, did a budget, decided what to do without (vacation and restaurants), and made sure we had something in the bank before having our first. Last year I found our budget book from those years...tracking every purchase and expense during the month, even a coffee and bagel. Had our share of unfortunate medical surprises too.Agree it was a political game. But it's not only the fault of the president and his GOP cohorts.
Back to your hypothetical: I wouldn't decide to have children unless I know I have a pre-existing financial safety net. Too many people in this country have children before they're financially ready to. I just wouldn't be that irresponsible. It would do a disservice to me, my wife and my kids.
Sure they will not get paid but there are many contract workers who will. It get back pay. They just lost a month of wages. I wonder how many people would like to lose a month of wages over this ??

Many people for a variety of reasons do not need to live paycheck to paycheck. Having been fortunate enough to become one of those people, I have always attributed it to some combination of God, hard work and good luck. The compulsion to look down on people who don't measure up is not how I live my life.
It is a mystery to me why Trump didn't push for the wall while he had GOP majorities in both houses of Congress. The only thing I can think of is he wanted to test the Democrats and try to get them to cave as that would give him the upper hand in the divided government era. It didn't work out that way.
I don't believe we have the political will to do what needs to be done from both sides.
The compromise (in my opinion) should be strengthening our borders including a wall for amnesty with a path towards citizenship for those already here.
Not amnesty for all just for the DREAMers. And not a 3-year kick the can down the road, but a full amnesty for the DREAMers here now.
Speaking of which, did you see the piece on the CEO of Starbucks who is considering a run for President as an Independent. His pitch is basically that neither party is listening and he can't align with either. Should be interesting to see if we see an onslaught of third party candidates that buck the primaries. It affects a lot of people and it should not come down to holding government workers hostage. Our politicians continue to not do their job and WE don't hold them accountable. We are too concerned about keeping a majority with the same losers that are not getting it done. See folks like McConnel, Grassly, Pelosi, Schumer, Menendez, Cruz etc. We keep electing these idiots every year and keep thinking maybe things will change?
Having so many "non-essential" employees is just another symptom in large flashing lights that our Government is not working at all.
Wow man you are so out of touch with the reality of blue collar life....its a great idea for any last worker in this country to have that much savings in theory but a lot of people work to surviveWe really do need to trim the size of the government. It's amazing how many "non-essential" personnel there are.

I don't know much about him other than the 60 minutes piece, but he's the only person with aspirations that has publically called out both parties on the partisanship, gridlock, behavior, etc.. Claimed he wouldn't use the Starbucks brand to help him, but that is an interesting dynamic that they have about 200K U.S. employees (FT/PT) and think of how many millions of customers that can have unofficial "interactions". And it's the demo that is growing and more engaged from 2016.I don't know much about him. But if there has ever been a year when this country might need a third party candidate this is it.
We might have to choose from Trump on one side (I still keep hoping someone emerges but apparently it won't be Nikki Haley who I would really like), maybe Kasich or Flake vs. a cast of Warren, Biden, Harris, Sherrod Brown, Sanders, Castro, Booker, Gilabrand and Gabbard...
None of those folks and the others that have listed their intent get me excited at all. I might be able to live with Biden or Kasich. Haley is the only one that would make me happy.

I'm with you...give me Nikki Haley or as Kasich as a back-up. On the Dem side, Sherrod Brown is trying to support and connect with the working American which I'm all for...Gabbard is also much better than the rest of the lot.
So I guess you hate Bloomberg too...lol.Ah all we need is another Billionaire who knows nothing yet because he is rich, he thinks he can be President. No thank you. Go away and make coffee. Leave governing to people who know what they are doing.
For the Republicans, Kasich will be as good as it gets. For Dems, I do like Sherrod Brown but he has no charisma. If I am the Dems, here is the guy to draft to be the nominee - Robert Mueller.
