They are building a ton of new everything. They actually added more GW of capacity from solar last year than coal. Renewables were double the increase in coal, and they have also been increasing nuclear at a fair clip as well.

Don't know why solar even enters into this discussion though as this was strictly about coal. In 2020, China initiated 5 times the new coal plant
proposals as the rest of the world combined.

Point being to me, does it even matter what the rest of the world does if China is doing this?

It’s worth mentioning because China will make new plants to meet their needs. Would be naive to suggest they can meet energy needs for 1.4 billion people without coal. It will be a combination of everything. The point is that China taking steps to build more capacity from renewable energy than coal at this point should be eye opening for anyone who doubts where the industry is headed.

No one is saying we shouldn’t be investing in renewables. Thinking we can go 100% renewable and it will move the global needle over the next 20 years is naive.

We don’t know for a fact that carbon emission is causing climate change.If it is the cause US emissions are down 12% in the last ten years so it is not US it is China and India whose emissions have risen significantly ( around 28%).So don’t spend trillions thinking you will bring a change if China and India don’t change.Even John Kerry admits this,but dreamers like AOC feel we must set the example for China to follow.

And yes, eventually if the problem is getting worse and China isn’t doing enough, we will likely work with other countries to incentivize China to do more. Hard to do that if we aren’t doing it ourselves.

I don't think its fear to not rape pillage and plunder our own planet. Having some standard to curb pollution & emissions is being a good steward for the future.

So I assume you wouldn’t support, or at least you’d speak out against, a president or other US pols who don’t hold the worst offending nations accountable….?
