The Hall and the Golden Eagles split a pair of regular season contests this year

CHICAGO, Ill. - The postseason has arrived as the No. 3-seed Seton Hall women's basketball team is set to begin play at the 2016 BIG EAST Tournament Presented by Jeep Brand with a quarterfinal match-up against No. 6-seed Marquette. The Hall and the Golden Eagles will square off in a 2015 Quarterfinal re-match on Sunday, March 6 at 3:30 p.m. (ET) on FS2.

The Pirates earned the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament after finishing tied for second in the BIG EAST standings with No. 2 seed Villanova, each sporting a 12-6 record in league action. The Hall split a pair of regular season games against Marquette, securing a 99-68 victory at home before an 89-82 setback in Milwaukee. The two squads also met in the quarterfinals last season, a 77-51 victory for the Pirates.

Earlier this week three Pirates were honored by the league. Tabatha Richardson-Smith was named a Unanimous Selection All-BIG EAST First Team member, while Aleesha Powell and Shakena Richardson both garnered All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention nods.

TOURNAMENT TIME
• Sunday will mark the start of The Hall's 32nd appearance in the BIG EAST Championship
• The Pirates are 20-31 all-time in the conference tournament, reaching the finals on four occasions - 2015, 1996, 1994 and 1984
• Last season The Hall picked up a quarterfinal victory over Marquette and a semifinal triumph over St. John's before falling to host DePaul in the final
• The Pirates are 3-2 under Anthony Bozzella in the conference championship with at least one victory in each of his first two appearances
• The Hall has won at least one contest in each of the last three tournaments for only the second time in program history (94-96)

ALL-TIME WITH THE GOLDEN EAGLES
The Pirates are 6-9 all-time against Marquette, with Sunday marking the second-straight season the two squads will meet in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals
• The Hall and MU split two regular season games this season, a 99-68 victory for SHU in South Orange and an 89-82 triumph for MU in Milwaukee
• In the two meetings this year, Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) averaged 24.0 points and 8.5 rebounds
Shakena Richardson (Neptune, N.J.) averaged 15.0 points and 8.0 assists in two contests vs. MU during the season
• The home victory for SHU saw a season-high six players score in double-figures as The Hall posted its highest scoring output of '15-16 with 99 points
LaTecia Smith (Gardenia, Calif.) had a career-high 14 points against MU on Jan. 3, as did Taylor Byrne (Massapequa, N.Y.) with 10
• Richardson-Smith led all scorers with 28 points in the setback on Jan. 31
• In last year's quarterfinal, the Pirates came away with a 77-51 victory behind 31 points and 11 boards from Richardson-Smith

LAST TIME OUT // FEB. 28 VS. PROVIDENCE - SHU 71, PC 54
• The Pirates used an 14-1 run in the first quarter to erase an early Friar lead en route to their fifth-straight victory overall and eighth in a row against Providence
• The Hall got a game-high 18 points from Tiffany Jones on 7-of-10 shooting along with seven caroms
• Richardson-Smith notched her second-straight double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds
• The Pirates out-rebounded PC 51-42 and held the Friars to 33.3 percent shooting from the floor
• The Hall blocked nine shots and out-scored PC 38-16 in the paint and 15-6 in second-chance points
Aleesha Powell (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the third Pirate in double-figures with 13 points and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers
• Richardson dished out nine assists, tying her career-high in helpers
• The Hall honored its five seniors; Jones, Jordan Mosley (7 pts, 4 reb), Powell, Richardson and Richardson-Smith prior to the contest

SETON HALL TIP-INS
- Seton Hall is 22-7 and went 12-6 in BIG EAST play, riding a five-game winning streak into the posteason
- The Hall finished tied for second in the BIG EAST after being selected fifth in the preseason
- Richardson-Smith is second in the BIG EAST in scoring in overall games (19.5 ppg) and led the league in conference games (21.7) - she became the all-time leading scorer in program history on Feb. 14 vs. Villanova
- Richardson ranks second in the BIG EAST and top-35 nationally with 5.6 assists per game
- The Hall ranks fourth in the league in field goal percentage (42.6 percent) and second in field goal percentage defense (37.9)
- SHU has at least 20 wins for the third-straight year under Anthony Bozzella - marking only the second time in SHU history (1977-81)

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
• Marquette begins the postseason with a 14-15 record and finished with a 9-9 mark in BIG EAST play
• The Golden Eagles are the second-leading offensive team in the league with 77.1 points per game
• MU is led by BIG EAST Rookie of the Year Allazia Blockton who paces the squad with 18.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest
• Natisha Hiedeman is MU's second-leading scorer with 13.6 points per game, while Erika Davenport adds 11.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per night
• Six of Marquette's top seven scorers are freshmen
• McKayla Yentz was named the BIG EAST Most Improved Player and scores 10.4 points per game on 35.9 percent shooting from 3-point range

Should the Pirates advance, they will take on the winner of #7 Creighton/#10 Providence and #2 Villanova in semifinal action. That contest would take place at 4 p.m. (ET) on FS1.

The Seton Hall women’s basketball team dropped an 89-82 decision at Marquette on Sunday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center. The loss evened the season series between the Pirates (17-5, 7-4 BIG EAST) and the Golden Eagles (11-11, 6-5 BIG EAST) and marked a 1-1 conclusion to a weekend road swing for The Hall.
