Good Read About Karnishovas with Nuggets

Arturas was one of the best and classiest guys to ever wear a Seton Hall uniform. A helluva player who has had a terrific career in pro basketball.
Makes me proud.

I loved his game - great shooter, tough defender and high BB IQ. If we are forced to look elsewhere after this year for a coach, we can only hope that the powers that be consult with guys like Griffin, Karnishovas, Bryant and other former SHU greats who have either played in the NBA or are coaching there. Griffin would be a no-brainer. The SHU salary would no doubt be more than he makes as a lead NBA assistant for Orlando. The son of a minister, Griffin not only has the basketball goods but excellent character as well. Rooting for Willard and the kids to succeed this year. But after year six - without an NCAA tourney bid - with his coaching salary, the record of performance, and what's at stake in the future, you absolutely can't keep the status quo.

Mbraue. Post of the week. I love the idea of consulting with the former Pirate greats you mentioned. Adrian is a hands down choice for a finalist should we need a new coach.

How has the talent and connections of Karnishivas not been utilized by the past two Seton Hall coaches? Yet not one player has been sent Seton Hall's way? The next coach must utilize these advantages. Seton Hall can't recruit like Duke. So it must recruit another way. Use the advantages with Seton Hall family like Karnishivas and Griffin. It is time we get an imaginative, charismatic, hardworking coach here to turn what can be a great program around.

Pj was an early adopter of foreign recruiting. Now foreign kids are everywhere. Maybe kids have been steered and they said no.

I have tremendous respect for AG. I just don't see the point of hiring a coach with minimal connection to the college game. This is what Rutgers did with Eddie Jordan. The loyal favorite sun returning to his college campus.

I don't think it's that simple. Chris Mullin has created plenty of buzz at SJU but time will tell if that move pays off with wins. I'm skeptical.

The difference to me is that Adrian Griffin is 40 and his career is currently on the upswing. He would bring all the energy and enthusiasm of a first-time head coach at his alma mater, much like Mullin. He has people skills as he's been an nba assistant since pretty much the day he stopped playing and gotten more than a sniff at a head job.

Jordan is a good 20 years older and while he had a good run he was not getting another pro head coaching job. Rutgers was clearly an end of the line, ease into retirement type job for him, and from an outsider to their program's view, he's approached it that way so far.

I still have issues with giving a head coach job to a guy who's been away for the college game for many years. But I guess we're getting way ahead of ourselves here anyway. Willard still has a chance to save his job with a very good season and an NCAA bid....and imho with nothing LESS than an NCAA bid.

True, in an ideal world we make a run in the big tournament and Willard either becomes a hot candidate or finally understands how to consistently win.

And sorry to everyone for taking this topic off Arturas who has accomplished a ton since he left Seton Hall 23 years ago.

Couldn't agree more! St. John's has finally come around - Must wake up and mold the team around Pirate greats! Don't want to hear how they haven't coached before - Griffin was/is on SHU Board of Trustees and is a top NBA coach AND he wanted the SHU coaching job. A well to tap into if this season leaves us dry! Bryant and Karnishovas are top NBA executives. Morton has played at a high level D I. Let the season begin and let's move on if things don't work out with our own accomplished stars/executives.
