Good stuff from Jerry

Leaving the money issues aside there are other issues that I see that need to be addressed . When the sports media talks about our basketball program it’s generally in the negative with the only positive press of any consequence in recent memory being the official opening of the new Basketball Practice and Development Center. There is little positive news other then some vague hints that better days are are coming and I still believe had we had a commit to announce and some form of other positive news at the opening ceremony it would have shown that we are making progress . We need to create positive “ Buzz “ about our basketball program and prove we can leave the “bargain basement “ of the BE and better days are coming. The failure to do so will only confirm that our promises are hollow and our prospects for better days remain elusive.

if the University doesn't want to commit to the only sport that can improve applications, admissions, donations, TV and advertising revenue, and brand exposure, then yes you're right, it should absolutely drop basketball. Just drop out of the Big East, go become a D-3 school in all sports instead of wasting the fans time and money.

Look at this tweet. Again, I ask: For a small catholic school in NJ, why is Seton Hall not leveraging the ONE sport that can help achieve this for them? Do you all have any idea what a consistent top 25 team making second weekend runs would do to help the overall school? Taking $5 million now to help fill the basketball NIL budget is a drop in the bucket compared to what they will be generating if they do this the right way.

Just because Will Wade says something doesn't mean it's true. A quick Google search shows their enrollment was up 3% this past fall semester. The 25M worth of free advertising is absurd considering it's a state school & their current enrollment is 6,600 students.

Of course, Will ran out the door the first chance he got. McNeese was so desirable he didn't make it a week after the tweet.

If having a GM position is viewed as being a significant asset and where it is in place has proven itself to benefit the program then SH should move forward and create one.

However if I’m reading it correctly SH will add a staff member to function as a GM but not have the title of GM. To me that looks like you’re opening up to seeing disagreements between the coach and our version of the GM because of unclear lines of authority something we saw between our then AD and BG when he was our coach.

There is one major logical reason for having someone perform GM duties without giving them the title - Shaheen doesn’t want it. You want to attract a top candidate and you start off with a dinky name? Good luck with that.

I’m open to other idea here but I truthfully don’t see another reason as to why they don’t just make an official GM position.

While I’m happy the practice facility and we have more money coming in I saw a lot of excuses in this article. I don’t want to hear that we lost our best player but other teams are also losing players too. Outside of DePaul every Big East team last year was able to retain their core players. We have lost some of our best scorers every single year. That is not acceptable and that’s what I want to hear from the AD and coach because they sound more like accepting defeat. A better response would have been I know fans are frustrated and I’m frustrated to. I assure you we are going to do everything we possibly can to ensure our top players can be retained.

Additionally you shouldn’t be figuring out what a potential GM role looks like in late March. This should have been thought of in January. If schools around the country including Iona is making this a priority it needs to be done at SHU yesterday. It’s non negotiable. I wouldn’t care if Sha has a problem with it. He lost the ability to complain when he assembled a roster that lost to multiple mid majors and won 2 conference games. With 1.5 mill he should have at least been able to beat those schools comfortably. The GM shouldn’t have final say on the roster but they can help build relationships with agents, get a feel for the market so you know how much you have to spend next year, and can do some advanced scouting throughout the year. Even with more money I think some more changes need to happen internally for us to be successful.
