Grading how every Big East team (and a few others) performed in 2024-25

Not really. I think it was obvious what I was referring to and it really did hurt UConn's metrics etc.. Probably hurt their seeding too.
No doubt about it. Hopefully this year we can win one in Newark. Honestly, it's just painful to walk out of the Rock thinking "I can't believe that blanking happened again"

It’s still hard to become we went 2-18. Unbelievable how these guys allowed the program to implode. Inexcusable professionally, but they’re running it back.

To me they have 1 year to show tangible progress in navigating this era of college basketball. If that’s not there, they all go. Shaheen too. I think he’s a good coach but I don’t think he’s a good program leader at this stage in this area at this level. The personality isn’t there nor is the recognition to delegate and find people who are good at things he’s not. This isn’t St. Peter’s and he doesn’t have the transfer blockade anymore.

I don’t expect a winning BE season with our very clear challenges. Can we get to 8-10 BE wins? Show anything? Such a low bar but progress back.

Been watching, following and rooting for SHU hoops since 1963 when I attended. Not only following SHU but all of college basketball. I bet that exceeds any credentials he has by a long shot.

Just because you don't like or agree with what I have to say does not mean I have no credentials. Different views are important if we are to move forward. You should have learned this lesson in college.

By the way if you look at every meaningful team stat for the teams in the BE conference SHU was dead last or near the bottom. Also for stats across the NCAA SHU was not looking very good. So in addition to the record being bad it goes hand in hand the stats were very bad.

So how you could not give the "F" report card seems like someone did not do their homework.

We were at the bottom of the entire country in many key stats. We also went 1-10 against the worst BE teams plus that non-conference embarrassment.

I think you'd lose that bet given the guy has covered college basketball on a national level for 15 years.

I value different opinions. I learned that lesson long before college.

I don't value unserious ones like saving money for three years to take a chance of winning in year four. Forget trying to sell the fans on it, try telling your coach you're essentially going to starve the program of resources for three years to take a real shot in the fourth -- only to repeat the cycle again.

What happens when one of a myriad of things occurs to derail year four? You spent three years building for that moment only to see it crash and now have to wait another three years to try again?

You could have stopped at playing Assane Mbaye significant minutes.

sami......I don't think I said to give him anything but some playing time and see how he does. If Sha did that do you think given how the season turned out it would have had a negative impact? You think the record would be any worse if he at least gave him a shot? Even late in games where we were down bigly?

I don't think sitting a 7'2" kid when you stunk out the gym given the record and the stats in defensive and offensive categories made much sense. Even if he is a walk on it made NO sense.

TheHall87....... I never said starve the program. You are exaggerating. Find players who will come who are not driven by big NIL money. Recuit overseas, high school, JUCO etc.

The plan to have the smallest NIL pot in the BE every year and expect to move out of the basement by buying 1 to 3 star rated players when the competition is bringing in 3 to 5 star recruits is fantasy land. There is NO level playing field today.

There is no level playing field. You are correct and it is absolutely unfair. It's also the new reality.

As the saying goes, you need to walk before you can run. Job one is being competitive and to be competitive you need a plan in decent quality players to execute it. The plan can't be wait until everyone else has skimmed the cream and then randomly take the best of the rest.

Seton Hall cannot compete against P2, or even P4 schools, de facto payrolls. What it needs to do, then, is find the level of player where a reasonable amount of NIL plus the promise of being a highlighted player, rather than a depth piece, can entice quality players to South Orange. .I think that that is "doable" and while it may not be a recipe for a national championship, it is a recipe for being more competitive, which intern gives you the ability to get incrementally better players every year.

I almost posted a video from UConn GM Tom Moore here that talked about Connecticut's plan for fleshing out the rest of its roster. Tom talks about finding under recruited players in high school, in Europe, and yes, in the portal and giving them the opportunity to be a part of the team. The point he said is to look for guys who, if necessary, could ultimately step up and fill roles on the team. While I was listening to it, I thought this is exactly the approach that Seton Hall should be taking. I ended up not posting the video because it was like 40 minutes long and I didn't expect anyone to make that investment in it.

I suspect every school is now doing this so following the UConn plan is a problem for SHU. There will be a lot of competition for "flushing" out the rosters.
Yeah, but that's exactly the point. They shouldn't be competing against UConn now. These are the guys, and the guys at a level just above this, that the Hall ought to be targeting early. Reach out to them from the get-go and talk about the role you envision for them which isn't being a depth piece with a best case scenario of getting a couple of minutes of playing time and blowouts. I have to believe that is a successful recruiting strategy. Who knows, maybe Holloway is doing that. But from the outside looking in, it does not seem like he is aggressively pursuing guys.

Even worse is that our two victories were absolute miracles.

You missed my point....all the schools will be doing this. No we are not really in the same class as UConn recruiting and buying players but so are a many of our competitors in the BE and beyond. We are in the same boat and going after the same players with much of the same strategies and NIL issues. Only I think SHU maybe at a bigger disadvantage. If not than we would have found a bunch of studs already wanting to come here.

I think you are missing my point. Seton needs to target at a level where they can close. I think there is I viable approach doing that.
