Providence, R.I. - Four Seton Hall men's basketball players scored in double figures, and the Pirates defense held No. 23 Providence to 37 percent shooting and just four three-pointers made as The Hall defeated the Friars, 61-57, in a gutsy effort at Amica Mutual Pavilion Wednesday night.

Seton Hall, which improves to 2-1 in the BIG EAST with both wins being victories over AP Top 25 teams, now accounts for two of Providence's four home losses in its last 50 tries.

Senior Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Pirates in scoring with 17 points, senior Dylan Addae-Wusu (Bronx, N.Y.) registered his fourth career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and senior Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Senior Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half.

How It Happened

Seton Hall jumped out to an 8-2 lead early in the first half on back-to-back threes by Richmond and Addae-Wusu and a driving layup by Richmond. The Pirates were holding on to a 10-8 lead following a Jaden Bediako (Brampton, Ontario) layup but the Friars proceeded to go on an 11-0 run to take a nine-point lead, 19-10, with 11:51 to play in the first half.

The Friars led by eight, 22-14, at the 8:03 mark when Seton Hall's zone defense started to give the Friars fits. Providence scored a field goal with 8:37 left before halftime and wouldn't score from the floor again until a layup with 51 seconds left in the first.

On the offensive end, the Pirates went on a 12-0 run with all baskets belonging to Richmond and Davis. With The Hall up by two with under 15 seconds to play, Addae-Wusu cashed in on a corner three off of a Richmond pass that gave Seton Hall a 29-24 halftime lead.

Davis' second three-pointer of the game gave the Pirates their largest lead of the contest at 37-29 but Providence continued to chip away at their deficit. The Friars took their first lead since the 4:03 mark in the first half on a fast break dunk that made it 47-46 Providence with 6:37 left.

Dawes would catch fire in crunch time and he helped the Pirates pull ahead for good as he scored five straight points that turned a tie score into a 55-51 Seton Hall lead. Providence trimmed the Pirates' lead to two with 3:43 to go but back-to-back buckets by Davis and Dawes and key defensive stops down the stretch sealed the victory.
