Went out to the island to visit some old friends this weekend and had not been on the GWB and Cross Bronx is some time...of course, bumper-to-bumper both ways, so it gave us a chance to really observe the decay and mess. We can talk about infrastructure and stimulus, but I don't see how that five mile stretch of road is fixable at this point. It is distressing as this is also a critical piece of roadway that supports ecommerce for the Northeast. It really looks like a third world country.

Could possibly be the worst stretch of road in the country. Designed so many years ago and there's barely any room to upgrade it for today's traffic volume and travel patterns.
Last time I was on it was coming home from a day out at Bethpage Black (well worth the $160 for you golfers on here). 10:45 at night on a Saturday (!) and it was bumper to bumper until we got to the bridge. Just awful.

whenever i go to CT/RI I always take the tappan zee. google maps always forces me to take GWB but i override. tells me GWB is faster but im usually 20/30m faster with the tappan zee because GWB is such a nightmare. plus its just way easier.

I followed WAZE, but can’t imagine Verrazano/Belt could be worse. Will over ride next time. Litter is atrocious as well. Unlike any other place I’ve traveled.
287 to tappan zee is the best when heading up that way for sure.
Only take the verrazzano if you want to add 3 hours to your travel time.
waze is owned by google and both algorithms changed to provide routes based on fuel efficiency (or something suspect like that)
i always add a stop and place a pin where i want to force the gps to go. i still use the apps so i can see of theres any real traffic issue.
dont get mw started on litter. i think it says alot about people and their situations
Every place has traffic issues and eCom is putting lots more trucks on the road, but I’m amazed at how bad NY/NJ is considering WFH officing has increased.
