Happy Birthday Gary Cohen

We were so lucky to have Gary call our games on over the air radio. He was so descriptive. In a game vs Marquette during our NCAA push in 2019 he says about Markus Howard dribbling out of control “He kicks it!” Then MP takes the TO down the court to nail the dagger 3. Now Cohen broadcasts SHU games on some un accessible outlet. What a shame.

Our radio broadcasts aren't inaccessible by any means. They're available through the athletic department website, Sirius XM and I believe the Varsity app.

Granted it not as simple as turning on some radio station with an awful signal as we had for many years. Frankly, I'd argue we're in better shape now than we were before we pulled the plug on over-the-air broadcasts. It's probably been 12 to 15 years since we were on a decent radio signal.

If it makes you feel any better, the vaunted team in Queens doesn't have an over-the-air broadcast home either. Plus, they're stuck with John Minko and Brandon Tierney calling games.

Def much better off now. Accessible anywhere to listen in and with good quality.

You just have to adapt and accept the world of apps.

I assume lots of us remember where we had to place the radio so we could get SOU or whatever AM station we were on. On the way home from CAA, as I got off the Parkway at exit 117, SOU switched to a Spanish station for a minute or so, then went back to SOU.

I was in Mass. on biz in the 90s. Ate dinner, back in my room. Knew we had a game. WTF, let me try SOU, and for some crazy reason, I got SOU good enough to listen. We played Nova with Kittles, and as I remember it, AG lead us to a great win. If that recollection is incorrect, I had a helluva hangover the next day.
