One fans Conspiracy Theory (which by the way is one of my favorite movies):
The decision has been made and the press release on Monday will indicate that SHU and KW have parted ways.
Rationale: I am going with the theory that Esteban and Lyons are smart people and have witnessed the same train wreck we have over the past five years (and especially over the last two months). If KW can't get the players attention; what makes you think he will get the attention of the same players next year.
The talk about the "buy-out" and "lock" were smoke-screens.
Rationale: Both were floated to keep reporters and everyone else from asking more questions and contacting prospective coaches that we might be interested (i.e. Hurley's, etc.). Pat and Gabe needed time, so what better way to float the "Kevin is here" backchannel information without having to go on record with the dreaded "vote of confidence". Interesting that we have not heard one word from either about KW status directly...just indirect messaging...
They have already reached out to the next coach and are negotiating terms.
Rationale: The pool of candidates are potentially more interesting this time around, especially now that SHU is firmly in a league of like minded schools, in a better financial position (FOX) and that there is an AD in place. (al three not there last time limiting the choices. My theory points to one of the Hurley's or Adrian Griffin as the next SHU coach. The "lock" or long term commitment to Kevin once again is buying them time to finalize negotiations without interference.
Kevin knows.
Rationale: How else do you explain the passive coaching and going through the motions of the last month. He's not a good coach, but his coaching the last several weeks has been vacant at best. Have said in earlier posts that he looks like he doesn't want to be here. All of this will happen relatively quickly so to Kevin's benefit he can go to the Final Four and network for his next gig (if he already doesn't have something lined up already via help from Ricky).
So if this actually plays out, I can take selfish credit for predicting it correctly. If it doesn't, I'm just another internet idiot that has nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon.
