I do believe that Willard is a snake and had placed certain "feelers" out there to test his marketability. This part is quite believable as I have often stated that Willard has always had one eye positioned on the proverbial door.
I refuse to believe that Holy Cross put forth a bona-fide offer only to be turned down by Willard. All of this might make sense in the Crack den, yet in the real world it would never fly. Who in their right mind would salivate over Willard and his putrid record? If the principles of nepotism are that strong, then I am at an absolute loss for what really makes sense.
