On paper the team exceeded what I expected for this season but I'm still left with a blah feeling because it could've been more. I'd like to see the players work on the following in terms of individual skill development.
Myles Powell: Hard to find any fault with this guy. I'd like to see him develop a mid range pull up jumper to avoid some of the charges he got this season. I was going to point out some shot selection but I think he had to take some wild shots being our only consistent scorer.
Q McKnight: I'm really conflicted on Q. My gut tells me to make him a combo guard off the bench to give Powell some rest but I don't want to take his defense off the court. If Q starts at point; I'd like to see him picking his spots to score more.
Mamu: I really want Mamu to be our 2nd option on offense. Work on your back to the basket game, develop a go to post more or 2 and keep refining that jumper. With Mamu a lot of it is mental so confidence will be key.
Cale: watch Brian Laing senior year tapes. Thats what I think Cale could turn into. Cale seems like a happy go lucky kid but I wish he'd develop a killer instinct. Still needs to work on his handle too.
Rhoden: Love his energy. Needs to find the jumpshot he had in high school. I think he's going to see some time at the 4 next year so working on guarding bigger players will help.
Nelson: The last two weeks showed me something with him. Needs to develop his right hand a bit more. He has some flash to his game so I'd love to see him watch some tape and learn to make the right pass above the flashy pass.
Gill: Get in the weight room big guy and work on keeping the ball above your head.
Brodie: Has to find his niche if he's going to stay at SHU. I think the level of competition and speed of the game is still an issue for him.
Coach Willard: I think you can scheme to almost force a 2nd option on offense so I'd like to see you pick a guy and do just that. Substitution patterns need to be examined. Show Dan some love as well.
