Houston-Tennessee

From the way this game is going so far I don’t think the Big East needs to worry about the SEC tying them for most teams in the Final Four!
Houston playing their typical great defense and being an absolute menace on the boards. But Tenn not helping themselves in various respects, and missing wide open looks. Defense like that takes a toll on the opposition -- we saw that with the best defensive teams this year and how they would just wear on opponents. But Lanier is also missing some wide open stuff and Ziegler hasn't been his usual great PG.

BTW, I feel the amount of lane violations called as really gone up. Tough one for Tennessee down 13 and shooting FT.

Houston's teams are always tough and physical.

I don't know why any school that needs a coach is not asking Kelvin Sampson what will it take to get you here.

I get the baggage but in this day and age does any of that matter anymore?

I don’t think it’s the baggage anymore. I just think there is probably only a select few places he’d even consider especially given his age and that he’s been around a long time at lots of different stops, including big conference schools and a place (Indiana) that certainly used to be considered a crown jewel job (not sure it’s on that level anymore).

Houston is a power school now with football and everything that comes with it. He’s shown he can get to final 4s there and if you can get to final 4s it means you can win a title. I’m also pretty positive Houston would match whatever $$ is thrown at him if someone tried. He very much has his own kingdom there now. Unless there is some unique issue with an AD or the $$ allocation aspect, I don’t know why he’d ever consider going anywhere.

at this point you have to hopen

One common theme for all these elite teams is their ability to control the boards. Candace Parker hit the nail on the head when she said, "offense sells tickets, defense wins games, rebounding wins championships."
