How is that mental health training going at Ole Miss?

Its the word we live in now... delivery was poor from Kiffin but he's right. This whole mental health is a fine line and you have guys that are going to take advantage. Its one thing to talk to the coach and say, "I got these issue can you help me", but just to go dark and expect to come back without repercussions is unacceptable and its not going to build character.

Kid took 2 weeks off. Nothing of the fact in there from Kiffin did you see a doctor. Nor did the kid say anything about seeing a doctor.

Can you imagine this board mid season reading a player just decided he wanted a mental break and didn't need to see a doctor?

Or heck imagine telling a professor, you're my 4th final in 4 days. I need a mental break. I'll take your final next week.

I'm pretty sensitive to mental health stuff as my roommate in college tried to commit suicide, but there's serious mental illness who need help from professionals and others who just use it as an excuse because they can. Not sure what the answer is here, but based on the transcript I think there's plenty of questions that need to be answered.

So the kid told Coach Savage that he needed a mental health break. There should be a policy in place that the kid could have followed and not been penalized. As a mgr of people, I know to send someone to HR and let them handle it.

But the bigger problem is you got a grown ass man, yelling at a 19/20 yr old kid.

This is more on Kiffen and Savage than it is on the kid.

Grown ass man yelling at a 19/20 year old kid is a problem? So you weren't a fan of PJ?

I found the exchange rather amusing. The term “mental health day” is so commonly used today as some kind of justification for just blowing off the day.

Snowflake gonna melt…

Kiffen wasn't yelling at him about his play. Kiffen was belittling him about a potential mental health issue. There's a difference.
A potential mental health issue that in no case was there any mention of needing to see or having seen a doctor.

Well, that's why you need a process/policy. Savage should have directed the kid to some sort of support structure. Let them decide what the next step is.
How is this any different than being sick. If you call in sick for two weeks you better have a doctors excuse…that’s standard policy.

I don't disagree.

And we're still talking about a 19/20 yr old college athlete who should have been led to the proper path by Savage,

And, lets say Savage did tell him what he had to do. Kiffen should have acted like, I don't know, an adult and simply said "You knew what you needed to do, you didn't do it. You're know off the team." This is what happens when you let a man child act like its 1950.

You act like a child, it's going to cost Ole Miss a settlement.

It’s really much ado about nothing. If you act irresponsibly you’re going to get called on it. These 19-20 year old kids are playing a violent sport where tough coach speak is the norm. Wouldn’t be surprised if Kiffen talked like this every day.

I bet the trash talk they hear from opponents is way worse. Don’t be surprised if more athletes take mental health days because of hurt feelings from trash talk. I just hope the person executing the players NIL check doesn’t take a mental health week. My guess is the same players wouldn’t be too understanding.
