Very comprehensive review.

Seton Hall Basketball in 2015-16 hopes to avoid a repeat of last season’s epic meltdown.

How does a team go from a Top 25 RPI squad that had just defeated #6 Villanova to closing the season 4-13, having its top player suspended for a stiff forearm shot and losing a starting guard midway through the conference season? Kevin Willard would like to know because is hoping that the slide from last season does not continue into this upcoming season and ultimately cost him his job.

Good find SPK and a lot of what he says is right on the money especially his discussion of the discord between players on last year's team.

Funny he attributes the loss to uga as the beginning of our slide.

That's a pretty impressive analysis...especially coming from someone who's likely focused on SEC basketball and not the Big East. He knows what he's talking about.

My favorite line was on the Prudential Center, which he characterized as "a neutral court masquerading as a home environment."

To be fair, whenever the team has had even a modicum of momentum the Rock has been a pretty legitimate college home court.

We've just had too many awful February slides under both Willard and BG. Occasionally, the team catches fire in Dec/Jan and just when hope materializes and the PruCenter starts rocking, the floor falls out. That hangover then carries over into the new season. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

If we ever had some sustained success, the Rock would be a great place to watch college basketball - at least by Northeastern standards.

During the st johns game along with the nova game the rock was going wild. I almost could not believe how loud it got on there. Made me proud to be a pirate.

shuma - quick question for you. out of curiosity how man college bball venues have you been to that are non-pro sports arenas?

Unfortunately I missed the St. John's and Nova game last year which I heard had great atmospheres. The loudest I've heard the Rock was the Louisville game in Hazels freshman year, but even the great atmosphere at that game pales in comparison to some of these 8k seat band boxes.

in my opinion the pro sports arenas can't compare to the home court advantage provided by a Walsh gym

In 2004 when we played at Rutgers (last time we were both good) I remember my ears actually hurting from the noise level. It was unreal. I've never experienced anything remotely close to that at the rock or continental.

Home court advantage will only take you so far, but it certainly helps.

The sju and nova games at the Rock were the best SH atmosphere games I have attended. I was not at the 89 gu game or 93 unc game. Best caa game I saw was either the cuse game in 92 - first time we beat them or the osu game of that year.

Please, if Duke played as poorly as we have over so much of the past 10 years Cameron would be a lot less intimidating.

I've read this story twice now and I've become more impressed on how right on point this writer is and it reflects how deligent he was in his research for this story. He certainly highlight's the key weaknesses that have hampered this program all of which have been the subject of extensive and often heated debate on this board. When stories like this surface as a piece about one of Georgia's future 2015/2016 opponents by a writer whose primary focus is probably the SEC you realize how little respect there is for SH basketball among many in the sports media around the country.

The most intense and loudest crowd at a Seton Hall game was the first sell out in 1989 against Georgetown. The Place shook and I left with no voice. A fantastic night in a magical season.

Okay, I went through it all the way to the end. I cannot remember such a well-constructed, well-researched article about a team, any team. Outstanding work by that writer - accurate as all get-out.

There is a lot of good accurate information in this article exposing both our positives and our hideous warts. However, press is press and I am shocked that a writer from outside this geographic region spent so much time in his analysis of a presently insignificant program. Unfortunately, the present regime has brought our program into the dregs of relevancy. I truly enjoyed reading this and tried to fool myself into believing that maybe we still matter just a tiny little bit.

OK so you need to get a life, LOL!!!

Seriously, this article was directed to me by a huge Seton Hall supporter who doesn't post here.

Great article except I think Seton Hall should be a bit better defensively (although not as as good as many think) than this article points out.

I am certain that was the best ever. Unfortunately, I was in my kitchen listening to the radio.

Agreed,,,,just when you thought research-based, unbiased, well-written reporting had totally left the building. This guy must be over 60....lol

The best break down I have ever read on the team.
