Hurley, Turgeon verbal heat

Very unfortunate for Hurley to lose his best player to injury for the season. Of course this means that uri has less of a chance to make the NCAA and will most likely be stuck in Rhode Island for another season. Unless , of course, a smart AD can look past the record this year and realize that he is a great coach and great recruiter.

I am not saying DH is not a good coach. But if we hired a guy in his 6th year with another name who had no ncaa appearances, I wonder what we would think of hiring him.

Our next coach has to be a big splash or someone we take a chance on. The school has been playing it safe and it's not working. Either spend the money for a real coach or try to get lucky without spending. I'd love to have Danny Hurley back here. Who cares what happened 25 years ago.

Hurley still has to prove he can get URI over the hump.

Sounds like Danny Hurley got a bum rap here. Guilty until having shown to be innocent.

"I hear nothing, I see nothing, I know nothing" so said Sgt Schultz, Cancun Challenged head of security.

I know there's always been a high degree of interest in Danny whenever there's been discussion about a change at SH but Danny's contract was extended to the 2020 / 2021 season this past May and I have no doubt includes a large buyout to hire him and would factor largely into any school's interest in hiring him.

Rhode Island AD denies alleged derogatory remarks by coach Dan Hurley

Rhode Island athletic director Thorr Bjorn on Thursday denied any "derogatory expletive remarks" were made by Rams coach Dan Hurley or his staff toward Maryland players during the postgame handshake at the Cancun Challenge on Saturday night.

A tournament official said Hurley directed an expletive at Maryland players after the Terps' 86-63 victory, according to The Washington Post, and the teams had to be separated prior to the awards presentation.

"After extensive conversations with our head coach, staff, and administrators who were on the floor for the postgame handshakes, I am 100 percent confident that neither Dan Hurley, nor any member of our coaching staff made any derogatory expletive remarks or offensive statements toward the Maryland student-athletes," Bjorn said in a statement. "Any report, rumor, allegation to the contrary is false."

Earlier in the game, Hurley and Maryland coach Mark Turgeon had a verbal exchange after Jake Layman's 3-pointer with 1:41 left as Maryland pushed its lead to 24 points.

Turgeon had no comment on the incident after the game, and Hurley avoided specifics in his comments, saying, "Heat of the moment, championship game. Stuff happens."
