it seems with the addition of Thomas that KW feels he will be here in two years and doesn't need to win next year. I also feel bad that Either Anthony or Sanogo will be leaving to make way for another guard. I can't blame either, especially Ish, who got totally disrespected like Manga with the lack of playing time down the stretch. He will never progress with KW as a coach, so I can't blame him for leaving, but I wish we had a real coach, as Ishmael appeared to have potential if we had a real coach. I will now standby and wait for Jerry Lucas' friend to say how we will be better without these players and that Top 3 is a guarantee with or without them.

Anthony already sat a year why would he leave. I bet no one leaves and we have two guards next year. Would anyone here really believe that Willard has a recruiting plan.

willard cant tell his ass from his elbow so i wouldnt worry about the thomas signing. youre most likely reading into it too much. hes just another "name here" that he signed as a desperate attempt to take some heat off of him but after 3 of the same guy per year it gets kind of old.

This could be fun. Fill in the blank.

I will be ______ if Willard is here in two years.

I will be bald from pulling my hair out if Willard is here in two years.
I will be in a rubber room if Willard is here in two years.
I will be hoping he had to buy a ticket to get in the place if Willard is here in two years.
I will be rooting for Rutgers if Willard is here in two years.
I will be accused of being a liar when I tell people SHU used to take pride in their basketball program if Willard is here in two years.

Mad Libs - KW edition.

I'd like to be able to honestly say I'd move on from college hoops and from having any sort of pride in SHU but I know that probably won't be the case. Although I feel closer to that point than I have in 20 years as a fan.

NCAA Bound this year!!

I hope that you're right but seeing Willard on the sideline clapping-clapping-clapping I think our record will be similar. Watch as Marquette with a minimum of 5 new players and Creighton with a minimum of 4 new players and 2 redshirts surpass us in the standings next year. Neither coach will cry that they had to integrate new and old players together or any of the excuses Willard gave this year.

Making the tournament next year would be a death blow to Seton Hall men's basketball. Willard wouldn't get a sniff for a better job (he would still suck) and I don't even want to think about the lengthy, lucrative contract extension the administration would give him.

Willard is terrible, but everyone knows that. He is not the real problem. Until guys like Hobbs, Hank, Lyons and Jim (that's for you jcalz) are gone, we will see the same BS when it comes to the program.

I'm sure Willard will stink up the place next year and finally be let go. Great. Then we get the joy of watching Moe, Larry and Curly pick our next coach.

Wish I shared your confidence that stinking up the joint next season would result in his dismissal

Does this mean some fans will be rooting for the Pirates to lose certain games so the record doesn't get so good that Willard is retained? Or do we punish ourselves by rooting as always while hoping that Willard leads them to a banner season?

Any true Seton Hall fan will be rooting for the players and team to win as many games as possible this year. I have been a Seton Hall fan for more than 30 yrs and I rooted for them to win every game. If you do not root for your favorite team to win, then you are not a fan of that team. It is that simple!

It's a tough situation Jim. I can't see myself rooting for them to lose. However, Willard making the tournament in his 6th year does not mean he turned the program around. It would be lipstick on a pig.

The administration apparently feels differently. If he makes the tournament next year he will be back. If not, he will be gone.

You can't root against the team. In most cases, it's counter-intuitive: "I don't like this coach because he loses too many games, which I hate, so I hope we start losing all our games." Obviously, the point is that in this scenario, the coach in question will eventually be fired, but the more games the lame-duck coach loses, the farther he sets the program back, making it then harder to 1) attract a talented new coach, and 2) for that new coach to rebuild the program - and start winning some basketball games.

I think most astute observers of this game and this team can see that there is no point to root for Seton Hall to lose next year; that'll take care of itself in all likelihood no matter what we wish for. But these same people can also see that the task of rebuilding became substantially more difficult by extending the inevitable until next year. And the climb back to respectability becomes steeper with each successive year. That knowledge is the thing that will plant that little, tiny seed of conflict in their hearts next season, knowing that it's the rare case when actually making an NCAA tournament would be a net negative for the program.

I hope for our team to win 20+ games this year and make the tourney after Willard is fired after an 0-5 start to the non-conference schedule and Holloway takes over and becomes the next ****ing Kevin Ollie

holy shit i agree with you.

Athlete, (a) I acknowledge your avatar and will use it until "Liberation Day", (b) it is trivially easy for absolutely everyone to agree with that comment simply because everyone here is ACTUALLY a Seton Hall fan - except, you need to remember the FLNJ does not actually believe that many of us are "true Seton Hall fans" based on his postings.

For the record I do noT think it is fair to blame hank.

With all due respect for his generosity to the school and MBB program, he absolutely shares in the blame. He is a money guy, not a basketball guy. He should take the thanks, the courtside seats, the pats on the back from Felt and Lyons, goodies for his kids, the free beers, and stay out of the operations side.

When he came on this board, he was nothing but a Willard apologist, and I'm sure he wouldn't have the audacity to come back now.

Great post Donnie. If you're on the BOR, you shoulder the responsibility for approving the ridiculous buy-out. No getting around that. Hank gets no pass.

You better check the record again, my friend.

I am just not a fan of bashing him. Hank has been very helpful to me throughout my young career and has always been there to answer any questions I have had. He truly bleeds pirate blue and I have no doubt wants what is best for the university.

He is on the board all the time, you just dont know who he is. Also getting to know Hank, he is not the type to run or hide from a decision he made. I guess its easy to throw rocks at people from down here.

I think we all do. Otherwise, who would waste their time here? We just don't all agree on the proper pathway to success or "what's best for the university."

Fair enough. He obviously has had a lot of success in business and given a tremendous amount of money back to the school.

He was also instrumental in giving a career losing coach a contract that is forcing the school to retain him.

Hank is hurting more than helping.

I will be "going to games wearing a paper bag over my head" if Willard is here in two years.

I hear you. I've met him, and he's a nice guy. I wish I had the means to give back as much as he does -- and he is extremely modest about it. The thing is, what does he know about hiring basketball coaches? That goes for Pat Hobbs, too. I'm sure he's not one to shy away, I just wouldn't expect a question-and-answer session like the last time. I would appreciate that, but I wouldn't expect it.

+1 again. The only way Willard should have been given an extension or enhanced buy-out is if Lyons (who was on board) came to the BOR with that recommendation and proved his case. This one seemed to happen in reverse with a bunch of guys that had no business putting a package together that could have (and has) hamstrung the school. That's not their job as the BOR and was not Hobbs job either. You can care about the university and be stupid at the same time.
