Thanks for sharing this nice article which I would’ve never otherwise seenno sissy complaints from jerry
Notice how he creates this choice between wearing masks or closing schools. That's not reality. You don't need to wear masks to keep schools open. Schools can be run perfectly fine in-person without masks.
He's not creating that choice. Regardless of our opinions, schools are more likely to quarantine / close if there are outbreaks without masks vs with masks.
It is better than virtual. Rather see people in person and wear a mask than not.He says "It was worth it". How exactly?
Schools shouldn't be closing at all. The only people staying home should be anyone who is actively sick.
You’re omitting stuff which I won’t addressDepends on what your goal is there. If you’re staying home because you don’t feel well, sure. If you’re staying home to prevent spreading it to others that you have been in class with for the last week, it’s too late for that.
In any case... again, regardless of what they “should” do, schools will quarantine kids who were in close contact with another infected child without a mask.

But the last part should’ve read as follows:
schools will quarantine kids who were anywhere near an infected child or teacher regardless of whether they were wearing a mask
It is better than virtual. Rather see people in person and wear a mask than not.
🙄You can't see them cause their face is covered
There are kids in my family who are in school. You have kids in school?
I do, and our district is handling it the way I said.
I’d prefer no mask mandates but it is absolutely imperative that children be back physically in school. And if you are going to mandate masks, you need to mandate teacher vaccinations. Can’t have it both ways.

good for you and good luck to your kids this year.
are you saying kids don’t quarantine if a teacher is infected?

From July: since the beginning of the pandemic, 335 children under the age of 17 have died from COVID. CDC does not report comorbitities.
It’s more dangerous to walk to school in NYC or Philly. 400 in 20 months, and we don’t have visibility into comorbitities.Up to 400 now. August data is not yet complete, but has the most deaths among children 17 and under of any month since January.

We’re on the same page but you don’t see that because ….?No they won’t be. Happened at our school last year.
They would if it was close contact for an extended period of time or without masks.
The data shows that children continue to be at incredibly low risk, and we also don’t know the comorbity data. There’s a lot that’s not known including the long term effects of isolating children, social development, mental health, adverse effects of vaccines, etc. Another issue that’s been highly politicized with little data to take absolute positions.Right. The risk is low. Though also not entirely known at this point if Delta is worse for kids or not. I haven’t seen enough to have an opinion, but let’s just be honest that there are signs it is currently getting worse than it has been and we don’t know if that will continue.
At this point, I would guess it won’t get much worse but that is just a guess.

Seems like opioids are a much bigger risk to children as data shows significantly more deaths.

The point I was trying to make is that I wish we would spend more time focusing on issues that kill more children than Covid.opioids are far more dangerous for kids. Don’t think anyone would argue otherwise... but also has nothing to do with a response to a contagious virus and making sure we can keep kids in school as opposed to virtual options.
