I just wish double-00 were here

One of my favorite posters back in the day. Man did that guy hate Willard. Pretty sure he was a Mike Rice fan though, so.... 1 for 2 I guess.

Double 00 was the first to call Willard for what he is. I liked him as a poster. In the famous words of Double00, " Willard couldn't sell a box of candy to his mother".
He was correct all along.

I mean, i think i noticed fairly instantly...like maybe .001s after the signing. Why do you think ive always been enraged at the program and most the board? how could you guys not sniff this out? literally after 2/3 years of recruiting nobody i still couldnt get it through some people's heads. From the get go it was a small time misguided hire and it really reflected the state of Seton Hall. Dont really like saying this about a human being but he really, really sucks. Was never fooled by him being a nice guy either.

Shuathlete... I'm in your camp 100% on this particular post. There were like 5 of us banging our heads against a brick wall.

Salute to all those who saw this and called it from the start. Most of us here wanted to believe and gave him extended doubt. Looking back most of us should have reasonably realized between the end of season 2 and the disaster of season 3. I didn't realize til midway through season 4 when he was in the midst of leading a team stocked with decent seniors to the bottom of the conference. I hoped against hope that he would luck into success this year and take the opportunity to ditch us, but alas.

Double-00 was a great poster and is still a great man. He knew from the beginning what a fraud Willard is. Double-00, if you are still on the board come out of retirement from the board and tell us all how it feels to be right.

Don't know about the greatness stuff, but my old amigo OO also led that attack on PJ, but was well connected to many AAU coaches and a couple of the players who saved PJ's bacon. Never afraid to call someone out when he believed it was in SH's best interests. Big time SH fan. He'd have me call into Hall Line to help support his positions, which I did when I agreed with him. Maplewood come on down and join the fun.

You're just a prescient genius, it's apparent in every facet of your life.

Donnie, you got it wrong on Willard. Some of us had it right. And as someone who had it right about Willard, it doesn't make me feel any better about our situation. To be honest, I wish I got it wrong. For whatever reason, this man had a lot of people backing him despite obvious objective failures. This man was left with a great deal of talent on the team and he did nothing with it.

There were always excuses. Injuries, it wasn't his players, wait till he gets players to fit his system. Willard was the man of a 1000 excuses. His greatest accomplishment was getting Delgado & Whitehead class. And he had to give away jobs to accomplish it. Meanwhile, he handled his players so poorly. He is such a bad coach, he could have the next fab 5, or the next Kentucky class and he still wouldn't accomplish a thing.

Seton Hall must have a dynamic and charismatic coach. Willard is dull and flavorless.

Yes, I got it wrong. Those who decided he was a bum when he was hired got it right, but it has served me well to make my decisions in a rational manner. You could have looked at his record, prior to coming to SHU, and said he would fail, but that is a knee-jerk reaction. Some coaches came from less, and did more. Unfortunately, Kevin Willard was not one of them.

It doesn't matter who thought what back when he was hired. He was an up and coming coach to some degree at the time with some history of moderate success. . But no one could have predicted this degree of failure which is all on Kevin. The same can be said of the Gonzo hiring. This time the vetting process and the investigation of the candidates should be much more complete. I just worry that Seton Hall has become toxic. But if Providence can find a Cooley we can find another great coach also. Please!!

I used to poke fun at double-00 asking him if Willard stole his girlfriend because he had so much anger about Willard. Listen , I was wrong on Willard. I still think the guy is a very smart basketball guy, but he can't control a team, relate to players, fans or media , and he doesn't have the courage to admit his game plan doesn't work and adjust it mid-game. All that pretty much is 90% of coaching. I just can't see howafter everything that has happened and after that Marquette game we still have this fool as our coach. I have a very tough decision to make today with donor matching day

I may be thinking of the wrong poster, but wasn't double 00 a big supporter of Gonzo and had some connection to the Gonzo and/or his staff?

Thank you for your promotional skills , boys .

I've gladly dropped off the Seton Hall basketball band wagon , and will stay there until they get it right at Seton Hall , and that's a gigantic " if " for a school that has very little interest in promoting a reputable D-1 , Big East athletic program ( 18 straight years -last place B.E.C. , all sports point totals )

This is a school that for the last 35 years , has produced a % 39 winning percentage in men's basketball .At what point does one say they don't have a real commitment ??

There's a rock solid reason why % 92 alumni don't give back a dime to Seton Hall .
Can all those people be wrong ??

As far as the current impostor go's on the end of the Seton bench , he came to South Orange with a big red flag waving in your faces that said " I never earned a job on my own merit , but became gainfully employed by my daddy's best friend -uncle Rick , who landed me a paycheck at the Boston Celtics , Louisville , Iona , and the current ship wreck .! "

Being a salesman by trade I think I can recognize a good salesman/recruiter that has the necessary skills to succeed .
Can anyone really say that Willard has the personality to sell his program , his school and himself to anyone ?

You know what Willard reminds me of , trying to sell a recruit with his persona ? Remember that legal aid lawyer in the picture " My Cousin Vinny " , who stuttered and stammered and didn't really do a good job selling himself or his clients innocence .
Well Vinny and his friend fired that legal aid attorney and went with cousin Vinny representing them ( Joe Pesci ) and won their case .

Doesn't make him a bad guy that he comes up woefully short everywhere , but when you hand out contract extensions like it's Halloween candy , and it's based on 0 success , then you've got another disaster .

My time is spent now at car shows and car cruises with my two classic cars -1933 Ford Vicky & 1934 Ford , 3 window coupe .( purple ) , and it's a very enjoyable hobby .

I hope your fortunes change for the better .

Love it!!! I missed double-00's trademark of the space between his punctuation and last word of a sentence. I realize I may be the only loser who noticed that.

Double-00, have you confirmed if Willard has been able to sell that box of chocolates to his mother?

Lol. I noticed that too, even way back in the Gonzo days. Guess that makes two of us. I used to disagree with this poster all the time during the Gonzalez era, but his post above is, sadly, spot on.

The sad results are in and confirmed reports state he got the Kyle Anderson treatment .

This really hits home for me. Willard never earned his way to becoming our Coach. He rode the coattails of his Father and Pitino, and made great money from SHU. I guess that Willard's ascendency to big money is a microcosm of our Society, where connections are often more important s than merit. However, in sports at least, one would think that you must earn your stripes and awards through results on the field or court. I guess Willard' connections couldn't help him recruit or manage his players.

Where do you do your Friday night cruise nights in the summer? I'll keep my eyes open.
Sometimes on Main Street , Somerville and the other good location is the Walmart parking lot in Boonton .Both sites get well over 100 cars , on Fridays .

I would be the guy with the purple 1934 Ford , 3 W coupe , or the Ivory 1933 Ford Vicky .

Both venues have a lot of foot traffic and good restauraunts , and they start about May 15 .

On Saturdays , try Main St. , Flemington , their cruise is every other Saturday .Old Bridge has a good Saturday cruise every week at the Friendly's restauraunt on Ferry Road which is off Rt. 18 and Rt. 9 .

Stop by , you'll like it a lot .
