Prince and Chaunce were 15-17 FTs and hit 5-5 late when the game was still undecided. Ugly game but 10 new players will cause this. We started 9-10 FTs and ended the game 15-27, 64.9% for the game. We need to be over 70% every game. We were 77.3% last year, best season I've ever seen.

Chaunce has to play 35 min a game

We need to see more. Coleman, and other injured players. I missed Harmon's minutes. I believe he was limited do to injury?.

Harmon picked up 2 fouls in 3 minutes. I took it as more of a dog house situation. Disappointing because he’s the only attack the rim guard on this roster

Also our best foul shooter.
Thought he’d be the guy with the ball in his hands at the end of games

A tough one to watch. After the dismal start, we were at 40% and 90% from 3 and ft at halftime, then a sloppy chippy second half. Lots to criticize. The TOs are most concerning. 9 guys with significant minutes, 3 of them had assists. Not good.

The positives, Chauce and Toumi. Aligbe, Scotty and Garwey showed a flash. I was happy with DAW. Tubek too

The fouls were bad too And Godswill picked them up quick, but he looked OK on the court.

We worked. Everybody. No one watched a loose ball and stayed on their feet. And they played their asses off on D. The offense in general looked Bad. Again. Yeah, I know, teaching offense is like teaching quantum mechanics while teaching defense is like basic math so d will always be ahead. At least, so it has been here for years and years.

Seton Hall Pirates, 1-0. Next.

Comparing to the NJIT game last year, team much more connected on defense and an overall much better performance. The Nova, PC, X fans are all saying same things this morning.

Most disappointing thing to me that needs to change. Toumi and Dual esthetic had 1 rebound with 5 minutes to go to game.

Loved the way Godswill and Jenkens chased boards.

What I did like was the defensive work ethic, They do need to streamline it a bit. Recalling last year's OOC Tournament the team was not playing with that intensity. Hopefully, they can play that way in Charleston. The free throw shooting must get better ASAP, Maybe some of it was do to first game nerves. Can't miss both at crunch tine.

Our offense was putrid. Our defense I thought was excellent. St. Peters made a lot of tough shots and if we played them again I think we win by 15+ just based on shooting percentages because some of those prayers aren't going in next time.

Work in progress. Chemistry takes time.

i wonder if the mid mid-majors have the same turn-over we and Depaul had?

I think Texas Southern is stronger than St. Peter's.

Even before Charleston, if we don't play better against Hofstra, we are in trouble.

When we first signed Chaunce I made a comparison to Souley Boum of Xavier a few years ago. Veteran guy who put up a lot of points for a mid-major.

I know it was only against SPU, but I really thought the Boum comparison rang true. Very althetic slashing from the wings and took the ball strong to the basket. Not to mention shot FT’s well and 2-3 behind the arc. No reason why he can’t be a 15-17 PPG guy if healthy.

Dual & Middleton were getting most of the hype as far as the newcomers, and yes Chaunce was clearly the guy, at least in game 1.

More than just game 1. He led the team in scoring in both exhibitions with 37 combined points.

Best thing to say about the team last night is that they played hard from start to finish. They had to grind out a way to win that game. Would hope that Coleman would have been another key scoring option for us although hard to say how much so but I’d say he would be better than what I saw from Middleton last nigh who did not look good offensively speaking.

Jenkins should be a consistent presence for us offense.. Toumi needs to be looking to score as much as possible although I’m sure Shaheens emphasis to him on defending and rebounding may limit how much of a contributor he will be. I’m assuming Addae-Wusu will be feast or famine like last year, but Shaheen is going to ask him to play multiple roles for the team.

I just hope we can avoid a DePaul type of season. Based on what I saw last night, you have to keep expectations in check to say the least.

My only expectation is to see this team get better game by game. It may not equate to wins all of the time but I want to watch our guys get better.

After watching that game, I had 2 full glasses.
I LOLed.

But really, I'm not shocked that a team with so many new guys played like they did last night. I'm not pleased about it, but not at all surprised. I think the team will ultimately be pretty good. The drama will be whether they will be good enough soon enough to assemble a nonconference record they selection committee can't rebuke.

Kind of like last year, really. (Although I remain firmly of the mind that a team that is 13-7 in the Big East is a tournament team no matter what.)

I get the sentiment here but I couldn’t disagree more with that comparison

I hope you're right, I just don't share your optimism. That group last year was with Sha for 12 months prior and that group had true All Big East caliber go to guy in the General Soreness. It still took them 8 weeks into season 2 to figure it out. What I saw last night was a good amount of guys with a poor handle and mediocre passers. Sha will break their bad habits but you don't break 15 years of bad habits in a month or sometimes even 6 months. Hope I'm wrong. The good news of last night is there were about 5 teams who all looked like 9th place teams.
