Is Newark the Next Brooklyn?

Very interesting. Supports a trend of Millenials and Gen-X'ers moving back into urban environments. You need jobs or a great mass transit system to attract along with the quality of life stuff like parks and running/bike trails. Newark has a long way to go but has a lot of attractive elements. Safety and crime will also need to be addressed. There is a growing gay population in Newark as well (probably why Whole Foods is building-one of their target markets).

Similar situation going on in Allentown with the NIZ. Neighborhood Improvement Zone...and downtown construction is booming ahead of schedule. Part of that too is politicians there are less corrupt than in Newark.

The link did not work for me. Can you provide a better one.

This is an interesting topic. I'm not sure that it would work in Newark because of the crime but the transportation grid would be a positive factor near downtown. The NJ city that has been reborn the most a la Brooklyn is Jersey City. First it was on the waterfront due to the proximity to NYC and much lower costs than living in Manhattan. And now other neighborhoods in JC are experiencing growth and revitalization. The Grove Street area for example. I'm not sure how the Beacon Hill project has gone but maybe someone can fill in those details and whether or not the Journal Square area can return to its past glory as a business center.
