NCAA basketball is a sham now. It is professional sports behind an amateur facade. It’s becoming less and less enjoyable to watch. You can root for a player because he is only out for his own financial gain and you can’t root for a team because there really is no “team”. These kids should be grateful to have a scholarship. Period.

This is the game now. Any player who is worthy of starting on a P4/BE team should have an agent negotiating for him. Any P4/BE team should have a GM to negotiate with these agents and a legitimate budget to sign players.
It wasn't too long ago that if a player had an agent, he LOST college eligibility. Now it's losing fans--

in this new world, I would be surprised if we keep our best player the following year. It will be rare we will moving forward. Too many big fish willing to pay more. Hope I get proved wrong with Coleman. Not likely though.
The motives of the agents are simple. Get the highest amount of money for their client so they can maximize their 20% commission.

Pro agents get maybe 5%. With no rules by the NCAA these "agents" are popping up everywhere and charging 20%.
The problem is and will be that these"agents" are not controlled --too many Kids?families getting bilked. There is no MLB;NflL;NBA controls and " Commissions" "services charges" all over the Board.
Yeah there's no rules, no vetting of agents, no accreditation, etc.
Here's Dre Davis' "agent" trying to justify taking more than 4x commission than professional agents.
This is where my pro-athlete stance ends. If you got an agent telling you its 20% and you don't vet it, too bad...
I have represented Athletes on NIL and refuse to enter a percentage agreement.There are a myriad of legal issues involved which vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction .There are a number of tax issues which vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction . Many --if not most of these "agents " are not competent to understand or advise and without a vetting Authority (i.e. Players Union) there will be frauds, theft and problems with taking a percentage for what services?-- Unfortunately the need for some Federal oversight now must be employed especially with High School Kids ( not age of Majority) signing ?contracts? with ?Agents?
No they are not and they never have been. And now these players are being used more than ever. 99% of these kids will never see the NBA. 97% will never play another competitive basketball game after their eligibility is gone. taking the focus completely off the education they can receive for free is going to do long term harm to thousands of kids futures.
